Abstract.
This paper presents the analysis of the link between Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA)
and ATLAS.ti software, from theses research abstracts and dissertations of a postgraduate
course. Initially, we present the theoretical foundation of DTA, the phenomenological her-
meneutic methodology of qualitative analysis. Then relations between the language of DTA
and ATLAS.ti are evident to describe later the analytic process undertaken by developing
a research activity focused on a learning community. It is argued that ATLAS.ti is a tool
which allows operations which, together with the ATD, help the researchers to establish
emerging categories of analysis, it helps in the systematization of categories in levels of
complexity, it minimizes the data entry time when reading files in different formats, it fa-
vors collective work in research because it is a system of open structure. It is concluded
that the open structure of categories allows to use the software with the assumptions of
DTA.
