Lowe’s, the Salvation Army Peachcrest Boys & Girls Club in
Decatur unveiled its new gym to the community.
The renovation included a new court, hoops, scoreboard
and paint. Lowe’s volunteers also installed new tile around
the clubhouse.
Joshua Dickerson, executive director of Salvation Army
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta, said the Peachcrest
Boys & Girls Club needed to improve its facilities.
“It’s going to increase our membership because children
will be excited to come and play at a new gym. It will
also allow us to host basketball tournaments. We’re super
excited,” Dickerson said. “Lowe’s and Kenny Smith really
came through for us.”
Lowe’s plans to donate more than $1 million in grants to
Boys & Girls Clubs throughout America in 2019. According
to Lowe’s officials, each selected club will receive a $50,000
grant and hands-on support from Lowe’s volunteers.
Dickerson said he is excited about the new look of the
facility.
“These floors are top of the line. It’s absolutely amazing
and it’s nice to see all the enthusiasm surrounding this,”
Dickerson said. “This gives me a great sense of pride. The
children who come to this program may not come from
the best circumstances...but giving them this opportunity is
absolutely amazing.”
The grants are part of a Lowe’s Renovation Across the
Nation initiative which is currently in its fourth year and has
funded approximately $10 million of renovations.
