Chapter 3

METHOD AND PROCEDURES

This research deals with research, research locale, subjects/units of

analysis, sampling procedures and analytical framework.

Research Design

The study used descriptive research design that utilized a research made

survey form in gathering the needed data. Descriptive research describe the

nature of a situation as it exists at the time of the study and to explore the factors

of a particular phenomenon.

According to Kong and Owen (2017) a descriptive design is a study of

status and widely use in education, nutrition, epidemiology and the behavioral

sciences. Is value is based on the problems can be solved and practices improve

through observation, analysis and description.

As for Locker (2012) a descriptive, survey research design was chosen to

investigate the four sources of mathematical self-efficacy of college freshmen.

More specifically it addressed the following question; what students’

characteristics influence the four sources of mathematical self-efficacy.

Research Locale

The research was conducted at Tanay West National High School located

at G. Trinidad St. Brgy. Wawa Tanay, Rizal.

 Tanay West National High School started its operation in 2011, which is

located beside at G.Trinidad St. Brgy. Wawa Tanay, Rizal. The school is being

managed by a principal and thirty one (31) Teachers teach different fields of

specialization. And the total population of Tanay West National High School

consists of eight hundred five (805).

As mention by Penaranda (2015) central to the school are its learners.

The school is committed to its mission to protect and promote the right of every

Filipino to quality, equitable, cultured-bases and complete basic education where:

(1) Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe and motivating

environment. (2) Teachers facilitate learning constantly nurture every learner. (3)

Administrator and staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling and

supportive environment to happen. (4) Family, community, and other stake

holders are effectively engaged and share responsibility for developing lifelong

learners. The school envision to dreams of Filipinos who passionately love their

country and whose competencies and values enable them to realized their full

potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation. As a learner centered

public institution, the Department of Education continuously improves itself to

better serve its stakeholders.

Subject/ Units of Analysis

The researchers choose selected Grade 11 students of Diamond, Emerald

and Einstein in which every section has selected 4 students that leads to 40

respondents in school year 2018-2019. Selected Grade 11 students were chosen

as respondents because most of them are addicted to social media.

Through them researchers will be able to know the advantages of social

media (facebook and messenger) as means of communication in Tanay West

National High School.

Sampling Procedures

The respondents of the research advantages of social media (facebook

and messenger) as means of communication among Grade 11 students.

The researchers used a survey form to know how students addicted in

social media and what are the advantages of social media in their as a students.

And how it affects in their academic performances and also to communicate

others in face to face communication.

They choose selected Grade 11 students to become their respondents,

they know that many of them using social media as their communication and they

use it for researching and they help to easily know that they want to know or

research about their study that easily help them to get more information about

their study.

Research Instrument/Instrumentation

The instruments used of the researchers was made questionnaire

checklist to gather the needed information.

The draft of questionnaire was drawn out based on the researcher’s study

to know the advantages of social media (facebook and messenger) as means of

communication among Grade 11 students.

The researchers used survey to know the opinion of the selected Grade

11 students of Tanay West National High School. Survey method stand as

evidences by the researcher’s occurrence.

Data Gathering Procedures

To know the advantages of social media (facebook and messenger) as

use of communication among Grade 11 students the researchers followed a

step-by-step procedures.

After the title approval, SOP and questionnaire checklist, the researchers

created a research-made survey form that was used to gather data which is

needed to complete the study.

To know the advantages of it, their life as a students and how to social

media is important to their life how is it could be useful to them. After that

procedure, the researchers granted 40-items questions that will serve as their

survey to every students that will answer the questionnaire, it aims to adequate

information for the development of the research and to answer the rational of the

entire study.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Based on the answer of the respondents about the advantages of using

social media (facebook and messenger) as means of communication among

grade 11

The advantages of social media as communication for every grade 11

students they easily to communicate with other and to gain more information

regarding to every school announcement or assignments given by the teachers.

Messenger can also help as one of the best way to pass assignment to the
teacher, sometimes this app is used by teachers to be way to submit the projects

or assignments that are given to their students.

Conclusion

On the basis of the summary of findings, the following conclusion were drawn:

1. Students is easily to communicate to each other.

2. Students use social media as way of gaining information regarding to

the announcements given by their Teachers and School regulation

information.

Regulation

In the line with conclusion, the following are recommended:

1. Students easily communicate.

2. Students gain more knowledge.

Result and Discussion

The researchers conduct two questions. They usually do it to know how

many students are addicted to social media.

Thirty four (34) students have a same answers in first question that is

easily to communicate to each other.

And Twenty Two (22) students have a same answer in the second

question that social media is used to gain information regarding to our School

announcement or Teachers projects and assignments.

And lastly, the researchers know the advantages of social media to the

students and they know that there are more negative affect of using social media

to the persons.
