SUMMARY of of features IC-706 CAT Excel Workbook.

Vers 5-12a

My goal was to make operation intuitive and easy, but there is an instruction sheet and

I gotta' mention -
While my slick algorithm will VERY easily enter CTCSS frequencies into the radio's memories,
they can not be read out of the memories into the sheet - Icom's goof, not mine. Therefore, after
the first time reading memories from the radio (and typing the names and tones into the sheet), it
is best to do everything in the sheet and just re-load the radio. The Names shall forever remain
problem.

NOTE: In some cases, if a cell is left blank, it will fill with a default when a download to Radio is
done.

I do nothing malicious in my Macros - don't know how.

Question welcome once you try it.

SUMMARY of features IC-706 CAT Excel Workbook. Vers 5-12a

General:
P U - L E S E go through the INFORMATION sheet. It ain't long, but...
- Operation is designed to be Click-To-Tune and Click-To-Read (the radio). As you tune around
the band, with the radio's tuning knob, you may want to return to a frequency later, so you grab it
into the sheet, then, to go back later, just click on it. The Control sheet acts like 65,000
Clickable Memories!
The Memory sheet can Click-To-Tune as well, but it just selects the Memory NUMBER you click
on, disregarding the sheet's frequency. Therefore, this works without the sheet updated.
- This is not intended to replace the radio's controls. I believe that Tuning Knobs work just fine.

- Some things Auto-Correct. Filters can be entered as "W", "M", "N". CTCSS freqs don't need
the decimal – enter 107 for 107.2. Colors change when out of the Ham bands.
- The optional Filters are entered at startup, or changed later, to allow the sheet to set them
properly.
- Set up the desired computer COM port – Watch the Baud rates. Click the button on the Control
sheet, change some cells then click the Finished button. This is a bit crude, but, oh well.
- Best to FIRST save it under a new name and use the new one after making it NOT Read Only.
In the outside chance you blow something up. (:-)

Potential Problem resolution:

While it should be very rare, IF Excel itself crashes and quits altogether, shame on Microsoft. It
happens to me on rare occasion and I have no hope of figuring out why. Just like voting in
Chicago; Save early and Save often.
If My code appears to crash, which should also be rare, you loose nothing in the sheets and
can safely do a normal Save of the Workbook, then QUIT Excel entirely and re-start the
Workbook.
If my sheet halts mid memory transfer, you should be able to try to start again. If it keeps
crashing in the same place, capture the error message that pops up (ALT + PrntScrn) and send it
to me with a careful explanation.
Icom's Filter Selection Algorithm Via Serial port) is quite awkward. My Code duplicates the
charts in the manual, but I didn't test all possible combinations of optional filters. I tested and
tested and tested (I managed a test group professionally). Murphy was smarter than all of us put
together.
You'll probably find the error I don't know about.

Control sheet:
- Type-in frequencies or click to grab a freq from the radio.
- Click on a line (row) to tune the radio to that freq.
- Have the sheet "Follow" the radio as you tune around, change bands and (I think) mode and
filter. Questionable value, but it's there. CAUTION – It may take a few clicks to get out of this
mode.
- Work the Menu functions that Icom made available from the serial port – no hunting through
Menus. I think the two "Update" buttons are the only ones that don't work yet. (The sheet can't
READ the radio's Menus, so the sheet may not reflect Menu item until you change it).

- I did one thing the radio can't. You can have a scanning step size different from regular tuning.

Memory Sheet:
- Load the radio's memories from the sheet.
( But NOT memory names and only store CTCSS freqs semi-automatically.
Note that the Tone and CT on/off parameters do transfer automatically – dumb Icom))
This can be done for sections of memories, e,g, Memories 10 through 27.
- Just by clicking, switch memories on the radio.
- I'll remember more as soon as I click the Send button. 73, Steve, K9DCI
