ABSTRACT
The word Terrorism itself creates a feeling of terror in our mind. Many analysts have defined
Terrorism, but there is no universally accepted definition for it.In a very simple language
Terrorism can be defined as “the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, against the
civilians,in the pursuit of political aims..The root of the word terrorism is taken from the Latin
term ‘terrere’which means “to frighten”.The forms of terrorism are descriptive classifications
explaining the quality of political violence arising from distinct political and social environment.
Although many forms of terrorism are accepted without controversy, some are the subject of
definitional debate.Terrorism can be carried out based on goals that may have a predominantly
religious character or to influence public opinion on political issues .It can also be an attempt for
economic destabilization by a group or a premeditated attack against computer systems with the
sole aim of violence.Terrorism is also sponsored by the state against the foreign targets or
against its own citizens. The perpetrators target other countries and even their own
countries.Terrorism has been a great threat all over the word and so ICT was founded in 1996 to
coordinate the struggle against global terrorism and to disseminate innovative ideas for policy
makers in the fight against terrorism.Hence terrorism being an issue of international concern in
this paper we will be dealing with the major forms of terrorism such as religious
terrorism,political & economic terrorism,state terrorism,cyber terrorism,internal & cross-border
terrorism and also about counter terrorism with regard to ICT.
