INTER-CLASS CHORAL SPEAKING COMPETITION REPORT

Choral speaking is an entertaining way to learn and to improve the language and it also can
help pupils to learn the language through teamwork. In addition it is an important tool for
pupils to improve their language skills. Choral Speaking is the interpretation of poetry or
prose by a group, comprising anything from half a dozen to a hundred speakers. It involves
a full and varied use of the individual voices that make up the group.

1. Aims
1.1 The competition aims at encouraging and increasing the usage of English among pupils.
1.2 The competition also aims at getting pupils involved and interest in the usage of
English language.

2. Objectives
2.1 The competition objective is to build confidence in pupils to speak, render, memorize
and express in English.
2.2 The competition will also give pupils to work in a group and help each other in learning
the language.
3. Duration
3.1 The duration of the competition is one day.
3.2 Each group is given around 6-9 minutes.

4. Target Group
4.1 Pupils in lower forms who are in class 1E,1F,2E,2F,3E,3F.
4.2 Pupils who can excel in English and average pupils.
5. Report on implementation of programme
The choral speaking competition was held on the 7th of May 2019 in conjunction of the
English Carnival Month in the school and it involves the lower forms pupils who are in
class 1E,1F,2E,2F,3E,3F. The competition was organize by the English panel. It was held
inside the APD 1. Each class gave a fine and excellent performance although there are a
little bit of uncharacteristic mistakes but overall the competition went on smoothly. All
the pupils and teachers give their cooperation and support during the competition.

The competition result is as follows:

RESULT
POSITION CLASS
1ST PLACE 2E
2ND PLACE 2F
3RD PLACE 3E
BEST CONDUCTOR ELEORA SUTAI ANAK ABELL SALANG (2E)
6. Strength
6.1 Pupils gave full support and cooperation
6.2 Pupils are able to produce a good level of choral speaking
6.3 Time limit is enough for the participants

7. Weakness
7.1 The competition stage is not suitable
8. Suggestion
8.1 The competition should be held in the school hall.

9.Recommendation
9.1 The competition should be held in a spacious, suitable and comfortable place.

10.Conclusion
10.1My conclusion about the choral speaking competition implemented in the school is
another type of method in order to get the pupils to be involve and make the pupils
interested in learning the language. This type of programme will enable the pupils to
work closely in a group and in groups they will be able to communicate and help each
other in learning the language.

Nevertheless without effort from the teachers involved this programme could not be
done smoothly and successfully. This programme is very useful and it is one type of
method that can make pupils become interested and get involved in the language
because during the preparations before the competition pupils will only speak in
English and they have a little time to communicate in other language.

Although this programme may have uncharacteristic mistakes or fault it is only

technically but overall this programme is successful and pupils gain benefit from it. My
opinion after this programme was implemented pupils will surely be interested to
know when is the next competition will be held. It is because they are excited and
interested in learning the language. Before I close my report I would assist and give my
suggestion to the teachers involved in this programme. Let the pupils work on their
own and in groups teachers just monitor and correct the mistakes that the pupils make
and guide them.
