Discuss the competencies that a communication practitioner must


possess.

TV broadcasters present entertainment, current affairs, news, music,


weather and sports programs on television. They may present programs
live or record them for later transmission. Broadcasters may also
research and write their own material.

Quality Traits of a Good Media Producer (TV and Radio


Broadcasting, Journalism)

1. Communication Skills: naturally any quality broadcaster is


going to have excellent communication skills. This includes the
ability to speak on-camera, write, and communicate in a team
environment.
2. Passion: Being earnest and truly involved in what you’re doing
not only helps you in your work, it also allows you to form a
connection with your audience.
3. Investigative Skills: The ability to get to the bottom of a
story, get relevant information, and ask the right questions to
get the answers you need from the people you’re interviewing
are all part of being a good broadcaster.
4. Ability to Handle Pressure: Being able to meet deadlines and
handle the pressure such an environment brings is an essential
personality trait to have in broadcasting.
5. Using Social Media: news doesn’t take time off and social
media allows people to be engaged with current events 24/7.
Because of this, social media skills and being able to navigate
social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook are key skills to
have.
6. Leadership Skills: As you gain experience, you’ll help guide
and shape the broadcast as well as mentor younger reporters
and producers behind the scenes.
7. Humanity: Even in the age of the 24 hour news cycle, being a
good person is still of utmost importance as it comes across
onscreen.
8. Technical Skills: In smaller stations, they may be responsible
for editing their own program content. Nowadays writers write,
shot and also edit their work, the so-called “one-man team”.

Choose one area of specialization which a communication practitioner
can work and elaborate the scope of their work and give additional
roles, functions, competencies that people under these specializations
must possess.

script that they come up last meeting and the processed video.
2. They will discuss the competencies and skills that media
practitioners in the following field must possess and also the
nature of work of the given discipline that they must apply on
their evaluation.
3. For the presentation, the group must present their output in a
way that is presented in TV Broadcast, Radio Broadcast, and
written output.
