- Types of Theatre Play:
o Drama - a presentation that portrays
life or character to tell a story usually
involving conflicts and emotions
through action and dialogue
o Musical - a form of theatrical
performance that combines songs,
spoken dialogue, acting, and dance
o Comedy - a performance consists of
jokes intended to make the audience
laugh; a stage play that usually has a
happy ending
o Tragedy - an event causing great
suffering, destruction, and distress,
such as a serious accident, crime, or
natural catastrophe
- Types of Theatre Stage:
o Proscenium - has an architectural
frame usually called the proscenium
arch that divides the performers and
the audience
o Thrust - not always square but may be
semi-circular or half a polygon with
any number of sides; often used to
increase intimacy between actors and
the audience
o In-the-round - performance area
enclosed by the audience on all sides.
The arrangement is rarely round: more
usually the seating is in a square or
polygonal formation. The actors enter
through vomitories between the seats.
o Open air - outdoor theatres that do not
have a roof, although sometimes parts
of the stage or audience seating will
be covered; may make use of the
natural light
o Traverse - the audience is
predominantly on two sides of the
stage, facing towards each other
FILM
