2009 for running the day-care program for the children of workers
at Vatika India Next, Gurgaon. The crèche provides healthy meals, basic

VCare: Stories of Hope
VCare
Harmony House is a charitable organisation for street
children in India. Established in 2009, the NGO works
hard to address and meet the educational, nutritional and
future employability needs of destitute children. Harmony
House currently operates two shelters to support
over 500 children and provides vocational training
programmes for women and children nearing adulthood.
VCare’s continuous contribution for the past 8 years
has enabled Harmony House to fulfill their commitments
towards underprivileged children hailing from a slum in
Sector 17A, Gurgaon.
Meenakshi
Meenakshi Pariyar joined Harmony House at the age of 7 and took
admission in a regular school soon after. She cleared class 10 this year.
Meenakshi has four family members. Her younger brother and sister
have also joined Harmony House. Meenakshi’s mother is a cook and
works very hard to give her children a good education.
Besides studies, Meenakshi has picked up many skills including
art, photography, singing, dancing and computer science. She has
completed her beautician course and is now working in a salon as a
part time assistant. Meenakshi has become independent and is able to
support her family. She wishes to complete her studies and dreams of
becoming an airhostess one day.
“Each and every person in Harmony House is loving and caring. They
always inspire, support and motivate us to become independent and
to do better in life. I am grateful to VCare and Harmony House for
supporting me and many children like me”, said Meenakshi.

Premchand
Premchand is one of the many brilliant students of Harmony House.
He was 12 years old when he joined Harmony House. He lived away
from his family and worked as a helper, while studying in an evening
school. He was a disciplined and hard working student. Premchand
eagerly participated in various science exhibitions and won many
prizes. After clearing class 10, he undertook training and honed his skill
in repairing mobile phones.
Premchand worked at the front desk of a private company. Later, he
joined network marketing and earned a better salary. He now works
as a freelance mobile repairer listed on a service app, delivers Country
Delight milk in the mornings and also works part time with Dunzo and
Rapido.
Inspired by Harmony House, Premchand also started a similar
organisation in his own village and used his savings and earnings to
distribute school bags, stationery and books to children in need. The
organisation was forced to cease its operations due to insufficiency of
funds. He also helped his family build their own house in the village.
Premchand inspires other children to work hard and never give up in
life.
Premchand says, “I am not disappointed for failing in the objective of
regularly supporting children in my village with education. Instead, I
am very proud of myself for thinking of ways to help others and add
meaning to my life too. I am thankful to Harmony House and VCare for
it is because of them that I was able to make a difference to my own
life and others.” Premchand truly believes that - ‘tough times don’t
last but tough people do!’
