IMPACT OF GREEN BUILDING

Building in Indonesia has a big role, especially in the use of energy, land use, water use,
the occurrence of global warming and other environmental problems. Therefore, green building
is needed, especially in big cities. The concept of green building is building in planning,
development, and management as well as in maintenance to pay attention to aspects in protecting
and preserving natural resources, maintaining quality, both building quality and air quality inside
the building, and maintaining people health in it. To build a green building requires a high
awareness of the individual and also the sensitivity to the environment.

As well as build a building in general, in build green building is also there are rules that
must obey. As the GSB (border line building) rule that has a minimum width of half of the road
width, the KDB (base coefficient of building) has a ratio of 40%: 60%, then 40% should be used
for green space (Green Open Space) and 60% for buildings. If you can not meet 40% as green
open space then it should be replaced with vertical garden or roof garden. as set forth in Law
No.28 2002 on the building. And to meet the criteria as a green building, a building must pay
attention to lighting and wind circulation.

There are several ways to apply lighting and wind circulation to buildings:

1. Orientation of buildings placed between the path of the sun and wind, The location of the
advantageous building that is from east to west, so as not exposed to direct sunlight.
2. The location of the building perpendicular to the wind direction, this will allow the wind
into the room.
3. Presenting shade trees in the yard that can lower the temperature, so the temperature in
the room is not hot.
4. Have enough openings for air and sunlight.
5. Pay attention to the orientation of windows to the sun.
 6. Wearing natural materials that absorb more heat, such as interior equipment from wood,
fences and crop walls.

The elements used in green buildings are very much dependent on the concept that will be
applied to the building. If a building uses a concept that leads to nature then the material used is
natural materials in accordance with the climate in place, such as wood, natural stone, bricks and
others. And if a building using a concept that is more directed to the technology will be used
Building Automation System (BAS) or also called Intelligent Building System (IBS). IBS is a
technology with installations that allows all building facilities to be designed and deprogrammed
as per automated needs, wants and centralized controls. The use of this system can save a lot of
energy because all the equipment is designed to be used more effectively and efficiently. There
are several advantages and disadvantages to the concept of green building, one of the advantages
of being environmentally friendly, the use of environmentally friendly elements will make the
environment around it more comfortable and clean, and also more energy efficient because it
maximizes existing natural resources. people in it will live more healthy with the use of green
building. And the lack of green building that is expensive, materials that are not easy to find and
also the workmanship long enough. For the installation of materials on green building requires
complicated processes and techniques.

The impact of green building for the environment is very good, because it helps reduce
global warming, with the use of environmentally friendly materials will help reduce the heat
around the building. For reduce environmental pollution, the system used in green building is
very organized and minimize the occurrence of environmental pollution around it. So that the
green building directly will reduce the depletion of the ozone layer in the atmosphere.

The use of green building concept is the right solution to reduce environmental pollution and
global warming. So the concept of green building should be applied, especially in urban areas to
maintain the balance of nature.
