Lesson 1: DEMOCRATIC INTERVENTION

DEMOCRACY – power of the people/freedom.

Types of Democracy
1. Parliamentary Democracy – leaders become prime ministers or chancellor.
2. Jeffersonian Democracy – formulated by Thomas Jefferson
- All male citizens were entitled to equal political opportunities.
3. Jacksonian Democracy – symbolized by Andrew Jackson
- Focused on the needs of the ordinary people rather than on the needs of the elite and the educated.
4. Liberal or Constitutional Democracy – focused on the principles of free and fair elections, a universal
right to vote and a competitive political process where qualified people can run and be voted for office.
5. Social Democracy – conceived in 19th Century
- Promotes universal access to health, education, just competition for workers, and social services.

DIMENSIONS OF DEMOCRACY

1. The Sovereign People


- Refers to “Body-Politic” or the people who rule.
- Citizens / registered voters during elections.

2. The Principle of Democracy


- It focuses on the Equality

3. The structure of democracy


- This pertains to the various formulations, mechanisms and institutions which are crafted to enable
the people to actualize their sovereign will in the democracy process.

4. The practice of Democracy


- Involves the translation of the concept of democracy into reality or making the rule of the people
concretely manifested.

PARTICIPATION IN DEMOCRACY
- It is an involvement or engagement with something is freely done, without coercion and without
threat or fear.

Lesson 2: INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Information Communication Technology


- ICT is technology that supports activities involving information (gathering, processing, storing and
presenting data).

Technology – the use of science in industry, engineering, etc, to invent useful things or to solve problems.
