To amend title 10, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of a
military department to retain a reserve chaplain or reserve officer in
a medical specialty beyond the date that such individual turns 68 years
old.

A BILL
To amend title 10, United States Code, to authorize the
Secretary of a military department to retain a reserve
chaplain or reserve officer in a medical specialty beyond
the date that such individual turns 68 years old.

3 CERS IN MEDICAL SPECIALTIES IN THE RE-

4 SERVE COMPONENTS OF THE ARMED

5 FORCES.

6 Section 14703(b) of title 10, United States Code, is


7 amended—
8 (1) by striking ‘‘An’’ and inserting ‘‘(1) Subject
9 to paragraph (2), an’’; and
10 (2) by adding at the end the following new
11 paragraph (2):
12 ‘‘(2) The Secretary concerned may, with the consent
13 of the officer, retain in an active status an officer de-
14 scribed in subsection (a) beyond the date described in
15 paragraph (1) of this subsection if the Secretary con-
16 cerned determines that such retention is necessary to the
17 military department concerned. Each such retention shall
18 be made on a case-by-case basis and for such period as
19 the Secretary concerned determines appropriate.’’.
