What is Smart Laptop?
› Smart laptop is a black box system on a USB stick
– On-site engineer plugs the pre-prepared USB stick into any laptop
– Engineer connects laptop to the RBS
– Linux OS boots up from USB drive
– AutoScript tool starts and RBS is ready for centralized automatic integration or carrier
expansion
– Interaction needed from on-site technician or NIC engineer is reduced to a minimum

Requirements
Internet Explorer should be used to access License Portal. Other browsers may work, but
are not officially supported.
Hardware requirements to setup and start Smart Laptop:
1. Laptop capable of running Fedora 15 with Ethernet port, at least one USB 2.0 or 3.0
port and at least two USB ports in total.
2. USB stick with at least 16 GB capacity
3. Ethernet cable
4. Serial cable with adapter
5. DU Splitter

› Before you start USB preparation , You should already activated your iSIGNUM
and Symantec token.
› If you didn’t , then send E-mail to SL Admin ( hadi.Balharith@ericsson.com)

› Open the SL shared folder on google drive :

› Double click on CreateEricssonSiteIntegratorUSB_18.2.0u1.exe
› Click Install

› After installing the application, Click on CreateSmartLaptopUsb.exe to start
› The tool will start, but the "Create" button is grayed out.

› Plug a USB flash drive (minimum 8 GB, maximum 32 GB) into one of PC’s USB ports.
› Click the “Create” button and confirm the action.

› Watch the progress and wait for the installation to complete. This will take
approximately 10 minutes on USB 3.0 ports and 30 minutes on USB 2.0.

› Open the SL USB drive in Windows Explorer. Double-click the “SLSyncClient…”
application (.exe) file

› Select a new password for Sync Client. This is not the web password used to access
the Smart Laptop Software portal.

› Enter your iSIGNUM User & Password & Token from your Mobile :

1. Go to Request/Renew
2. Click on Request New License

› Open your E-mail and check the license PIN

› Go to ACTIVARE LICENSE , Enter the PIN

› Select “SYNC” from the menu
› Click Fetch sites

The window will list the newly assigned sites .
1. Locate your site , and tick the box of select all
2. If you didn’t find the site , Click on add sites and check your site on the right window
and click Assign sites

1. Click Sync all
2. Click start Sync to start downloading the sites scripts

› Open scripts folder on the USB to ensure the site script already downloaded

› Open packages folder on the USB and ensure all the required packages available
› Note: the packages should be downloaded from the shared folder on google drive as
mentioned in Page 9 .

Duw/dus connectivity
1. Connect LMT A port on the splitter to the USB to Ethernet adapter with an RJ45
crossover cable. Plug the USB end into the PC.
2. Connect LMT B port on the splitter to the Ethernet port on the laptop utilizing a
cross-over Ethernet cable.

BB5216/BB5212 connectivity
1. Connect a straight-through RJ 45 Ethernet cable to the LMT port of the Baseband
52XX.

Boot up of USB
1. Insert the USB drive and power up the computer
- On most computers choose <F9> to get the option to boot from the USB drive.
- Some users may need to choose <F2> to get the option to do <F9>.
2. Select the USB Hard Drive to start boot from USB

1. Go to File and Open script.
2. Select the required site from the list and click on it to launch the diagnostic script.

• Run the diagnostic and watch the script progressing. Answer to any dialogue the
script may present.

• Once the SL integration completed, new message pop up , click yes if the activity
successfully completed

uploading log files
› After completing the SL integration, you have to upload the logs by doing these steps:
1. Boot to Windows OS and open Smart Laptop Sync Client
2. Click ADVANCED
3. click Upload Integration logs
4. Wait till message (Log upload complete) displayed
