Manned flight travel to Mars. Is it a good idea?

Space travel has become an issue from the first time it is possible for man.

The first man landed on the moon had made an astonishing achievement for

mankind. Lately there is a new idea to send manned flight to Mars. Some people

think that it is worth the expense and risk; however some people feel it is

unnecessary.

It is a pride of a country to have a first manned flight to Mars. Regaining

the top position in science and technology is something a country looks for in

this journey to Mars. However, it is also known that to send a manned flight to

Mars will cost a lot of money. According to the article NASA in 1989 estimated

the travel to Mars cost 400 billion dollar. The cost now is higher due to the

inflation. Building a construction that is needed for mankind costs not as high as

this. It is said that one mission could be accomplished only by cutting health-care

benefits, education or other important programs – or by raising taxes. The price

of a mission is too high to pay if it is only for the sake of pride.

Science and technology is the key to economic growth. It is believed that

a manned flight to Mars will boost it up. However, economic growth through

science and technology is not limited to one discovery only. Other invention,

such as a Hoover Dam, that is more useful for the welfare of human kind should

be prioritized. The wellbeing of people will be one of the factors that can raise

the economic growth, so it is not necessary to have a manned flight to Mars to

increase it. We could wait until the technology is easier to be used and not

interfering with the welfare.

 The result will be quicker to have human being study in Mars. We need to

have a fast result, as it is the key to human survival in the future. However, it is a

fact that a lot of achievements in the space exploration are achieved without

sending a human being to Mars. We can have the evidence of water existence

with only automated probes and automated space telescope. The key to human

survival does not depend only on the travel to Mars. For example, finding new

kind of fast growing wheat that can stand from pest will be a good way to

increase the production of food. Although it is important to know about Mars, it

is believed that there are other ways as the key of survival. So the importance of

the exploration can be replaced by other ways.

In conclusion, although a space exploration is important, sending a

manned flight to Mars is not necessary. There are a lot of things to be considered,

expenses is one that stands out. Pride alone is not enough reason to send a

mission with people to Mars. Moreover, economic growth and key survival can

be reached by other means. Therefore, in my opinion, a manned flight to Mars is

unnecessary and way to expensive to be done today.
