The purpose of my personal media profile is to promote my graphic design business. It should inform the
audience of the services I provide, as well as the details of my location, packages, social media and costs of
my services. I feel that the products are eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing to look at, as well as
looking professional which attracts clients. Overall, I think my products are informative as they contain the
information needed to promote my graphic design business. They contain pictures to show my audience
the work I do, as well as information about where my location is and contact information. When making
changes to my work I would consider using more pictures of other genres of my designs in order to further
showcase my talent and promote my business. I have used both primary images and secondary images
within my work. I used my own images, as well as images of the same genre of graphic design I work in to
make my products look more pleasing to look at, and so the pictures can all follow the same theme. I
avoided choosing secondary images that would objectify my clients, as well as including offers that would
be difficult to promote and continue with.
3. Professionalism:
I feel that my work is very professional in both appearance and content. Each product includes the
right information needed as well as the right theme of photos. Although I feel my products are
strong, I could spend more time developing my website to make it look more professional. My work
is professional as it is authentic and completely my own work.
Discussion:
My work has a basic layout, but includes different shapes such as the pictures used as well as
contact information in the format of a polaroid picture, making the flyer look more creative and
more interesting. The professional flyer has pictures curving around the camera lens, making it look
more professional. Neither have a consistent colour scheme, but both include a range of pictures
which could appeal to a wide audience. I have tried to limit the amount of text in my flyer as I want
it to be easier to read, whilst still including the right amount of information needed. The
professional flyer doesn’t have much information on it, and the information included is in a small
text which could be hard for the audience to read.
I feel the main way I could improve upon the appearance of my work is choose a different layout for
my photos, as well as possibly adding a background and changing the placement of the information
and special offers to make the poster more visually appealing.
Discussion:
I feel that my poster looks more professional than the professional poster. Although my poster has
less information, it has more photos which are placed in diamond shapes whereas the professional
poster only features one photo. My poster has less information as they will be placed around public
places, meaning most people won’t want to stop to read a large amount of text. My poster includes
my website, genres of photography and social media, contact and location, the professional poster
includes location and website. If I were to improve my poster, I’d add more information about my
studio, as well as a picture of myself which is what the professional photographer appears to have.

Unit 23 – Personal Media Profile
Discussion:
You can tell the difference between my profile and the professional profile as there’s more
information about the company on the professional one. They have also used an image of their logo
as their profile picture, whereas my logo is placed as a banner and my profile picture is an image of
myself. Although my account isn’t as detailed as the professional one, it still looks professional as I
have included posts of my own work. To improve my profile, I would include more information
about my company.
Discussion:
My portfolio looks different to the professional portfolio. Although I feel like my portfolio looks
professional, I should’ve added more information and related it back to the purpose of anti-
smoking and graphic design as my home page includes pictures which don’t relate to this. Despite
this, I think my portfolio still looks professional. I used neutral colours throughout and kept to the
same house style as I wanted to target my audience aged 16-25. My profile is gender neutral. I’ve
used colours such as grey, blue and pink in order to attract both genders. To improve my portfolio,
I would add a search bar to make it easier for the audience to find a specific task.

Unit 23 – Personal Media Profile
Social media is an excellent way to develop a personal media profile. This is because I can post my
own photos to promote my business and gain a larger following. My main platform will be Instagram
as it’s easy to promote posts and you can use hashtags in order to gain more followers and let more
people view new posts. I will also use Facebook and share my page and photos. Using social media
will also help to reach a younger audience, which widens my audience. I repurposed some of my
digital content to be placed on social media because of this.
The advantages of social media to advertise my short film is that it can easily be shared through a
chain of people. The more shares the video gets, the more views it will get which means it will reach
a wide audience. The video will also reach an audience beyond my target. Both younger and older
people will be able to watch the video. As my video is appropriate for all ages, I have no worries
about younger viewers watching as the message can be spread to a much wider audience.
5. Repurposing of media
As a graphic designer I am often required to repurpose and reuse products that I have already
developed for different reasons such as:
Word Documents:
Original Purpose:
Repurposing:
I repurposed word documents by changing the format and purpose. I saved these documents as a
PDF in order to add them to my personal profile. PDFs are a universal document that can be opened
in any web browser – this makes them easily accessible by all clients on different platforms. The
purpose of these documents have altered as originally it was for clarification of the requirements.
Now that I have placed them on my Personal Media profile, I use them to demonstrate how I work
with clients closely to ensure that I create products that meet their needs.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Can be time consuming as it takes time for the document to save in this format.

Unit 23 – Personal Media Profile
At times the formatting of fonts and structure in a document can be lost or changed.
Powerpoint Presentation:
Original Purpose:
Repurposing:
To repurpose the powerpoints I saved them as JPGs. I did this so I could post them on to my personal
media profile. I saved each file separately and put them into a slide show. Doing this allows my
clients to interact with my website, which makes the profile more personal and interesting as it’s not
just a plain website which may become boring to read. The interactable slideshow gives the client a
sense of enjoyment and allows them to click through each slide.
Advantages:
Others can’t edit my material as it’s read-only. I could also copyright the images if I wish to.
Disadvantages:
Saving and uploading documents in this format can take time, as well as choosing the layout for
slideshows etc.
Display formats on different formats are unreliable, and some images may appear blurry which
results in reduction of resolution.
Animation and timings of the slideshow may be lost when the website is published online.
Videos:
Original Purpose:
Repurposing:
To repurpose my videos I saved them in a compressed format. This reduced picture and sound
quality, but was needed in order to be web-friendly. I placed the videos on my personal media
profile to demonstrate my skills and abilities in presenting, filming and video editing. This is a visual
way of demonstrating my skill set.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Posters/JPEGs:
Original Purpose:
I created a range of products such as posters that were large scale – A1,
and high resolution – 300PPi. I created my posters in a larger size in
order for them to be high quality when printed and displayed, this is
important as the posters and message must be clear to the public.
