PLAYERS IN A TEAM

1. How many players make up basketball team? How many play on the
court.
 A basketball team is formed by 12 players.
 On the court there are 5 players.

2. – What are the positions of the 5 players and their names?


 Center (Centre)
 Forwards
 Guards
 Perimeter player
 Point Guard
 Post Player
 Power Forward or Wing-pivot
 Shooting Guard
 Small Forward

3. – Characteristics of the point guard


Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and
making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the
point guard must totally understand and accept their coach's game plan.
Then, he is the most skilled player of the team. He is used to be the shorter,
though there are some exceptions. Characteristics of the shooting guard.
4. Characteristics of the shooting guard
A shooting guard's main objective is to score points for his team, steal the ball
on defence and provide support to the point guard to control the offence.
Physically they are taller than point guards, they should be fast and technically
skilled. Shooting guards are good long-range shooters, many shooting guards
are also strong and athletic, and have the ability to get inside the paint and
drive to the basket. Shooting guards should be good ball handlers and be
able to pass reasonably well, though passing is not their main priority.

5. Characteristics of the small forward


Small forwards are responsible for scoring points, defending and often as
secondary or tertiary rebounders behind the power forward and center, although
a few have considerable passing responsibilities. Many small forwards in
professional basketball are prolific scorers.
Small forwards are typically shorter, quicker and leaner than power forwards and
centers, but typically taller and larger than either of the guard positions.

6. Characteristics of the wing-pivot (Power forward)


They are tall players that plays near to the hoop, skilled in the rebound and very
good shooters from in different places inside foul lane.
They are strength and sometimes they play like centers.

7. Characteristics of the center


They played close to the hoop, so in the low position, either in defence, either in
offence. So, their main rolls are rebounding in both sides of the court and get
points in offence and defence in their side.
The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of
strength and body mass as well.
