In English class, we're doing persuasive writing, etc. And I'm good at this stuff. I'm good at being
persuasive. And my topic is:

"I believe there is too much emphasis on sports in our society"

So, I search up the average salary of an athlete. An average NBA player makes 5.15 million. A
major league baseball player makes 3.2 million. And a major league soccer player makes 0.16
million.

This is all per year.

So I searched up the average salaries of other major careers. Doctors make $189,000 a year.
Surgeons make around $300,000 a year. Then I searched up the average salaries that people
usually compare to athletes. And that's military officers, musicians, and actors. People who
chose their careers in the path of fine arts. And the difference in pay is groundbreaking. On
average, a military officer makes $94,063 a year. Actors make on average $52,000 a year. And
musicians make on average $39,341 per year.

The one that really gets to me the most is the enormous difference between an athlete's salary
vs. a musicians salary, specifically. People normally think that they are both completely different
things.
Different concepts.
But really, they are actually pretty similar. Both require a huge chunk of personal time,
involvement, motivation, and effort. Both you actually don't necessarily have to go to school for
either. And they're both among main sources of entertainment. People would argue that sports
and physical movement improves yourself, physically, and when you exercise, your brain
releases dopamine. When you listen to music though, your brain also releases dopamine and
studies have shown that listening to music, the beats to a simply song helps improve yourself,
mentally.
People have these thoughts in their head that only instrumental music like Beethoven and
orchestra music can help improve concentration and memory. But actually, it’s anything that has
rhythm. A song that has a steady rhythm to it sends waves up to your brain for it to concentrate.
I always listen to music while studying and sure, I do like to jam out and dance to a certain song,
but music really does help me concentrate.
I got off topic for a bit there so let’s get back to what my rant is truly about.

Now, i’ve mostly been talking about money and salaries when it comes to the comparison of
sports and fine arts. No, wait, I’m talking about how there’s too much emphasis on sports.

Ok, you notice that in some book that you have read or maybe in some shows, due to budget
cuts in schools, they usually cut out arts and music or how the art programs and music
programs are usually the first to leave the curriculum? Yeah, why is that? Because if you look at
it, some sports equipment can cost around or exactly the same as some instruments or art
supplies. Some can be more or less expensive than others, but still. The cost is there. Even
though our society is opening up to other things like, people of the LGBTQ+ community and we
are now just starting that people in some careers need to think creatively, innovatively, critically,
independently and have the ability to connect. Sports can only help you with really, one of those
things.
