Rationale for choosing artifacts for Domain A

I selected artifacts for my PDQP for Domain A that showcased the importance of making math

comprehensible to students. The first artifact I chose for Domain A is the “Telling my Story”

assignment. I think this paper is a great way to start off showcasing my artifacts because it

explains my story of becoming a teacher. It also explains my strengths and weaknesses in regards

to Domain A.

The second artifact I chose was an evaluative observation from the director at my school.

Each year we are evaluated four times by our director and peers. The scores are compiled and put

into our performance review at the end of the year. These observation scores will determine our

pay raise for the following school year and how much merit pay we receive. This observation

was one of the best ones I have ever had in my teaching career. This shows that I am able to

incorporate many different important aspects into my teaching. My supervisor was really

impressed with this lesson. She said it "blew her away”. I believe this is a great artifact to choose

because it showcases how I can make my subject matter comprehensible to students.

The third artifact I chose is the “Literature Review” assignment that explains the

importance of justification in the math classroom. In order to make subject matter

comprehensible, making viable arguments and justifying one’s answer is critical to learning and

doing mathematics.

Together, these artifacts are a great way to showcase Domain A. I also think I will include

a picture or video of me teaching once the next school year begins, but since my students are out

for the summer I will have to wait a few months in order to add this into my PDQP though.
