Procedure
Directions: In this lesson the students will learn about soft skills, how to recognize their
feelings, similar feelings in the others, how to handle with “big “ reactions. They
will discuss and follow the rules for communication in a team, a group, etc.

Step 1: Step 1: Introduction to the topic: the teacher explains what soft skills are and
how do they help us in our everyday life.

Step 2: Step 2: Explaining the meaning of some soft skills from the list like: tolerance,
collaboration, teamwork, positive attitude etc.

Step 3: Step 3: Warming-up: The students watch the official trailer and the teaser trailer
of the film “Inside Out”, in order to revise the basic emotions and to draw their
attention to the topic about their personal feelings, and to bring a funny
atmosphere in class.
The teacher asks the students to concentrate and think of moments when they
feel happy, sad, angry, scared or disguised.
The teacher summarizes that everyone has his/ her moments of happiness,
anger, sadness. That anger, sadness or fright are not bad feelings, but we should
be careful when we express them in front of the others, in order not to frighten
them or make them feel uncomfortable.

Step 4: Main part: The students are divided into four teams and watch a video
Step 4: quiz about emotions. The video shows 10 situations from the everyday school
life of the teenagers. After each situation the video stops and the teams have to
guess the feelings of the characters. The video offers commentaries how to
handle the situations in a better way and how to observe the nonverbal behavior
of the characters, in order to help us in our everyday communications. The
students discuss which behavior they approve and which they don’t accept.

Step 5: The students write the feeling that they like best or that describes their
Step 5: state best, or the new feeling that they have learned about today. Then they
stick it on our tree of emotions.

Each team shares with the class which part they liked best and why they liked
it. Most of the students liked the videos from the emotions quiz, because it
presents situations they have experienced at school. They have agreed that
nobody is perfect, but for the better school environment we should learn to
control our emotional reactions, or at least express our feelings orally.

Evaluation The students enjoyed the lesson, it was the first one of this kind, they have
learned about soft skills, liked working in teams and the experience in the field
of emotions. They became more self-conscious and alert in their communication
with the others
