Popplet is a tool that supports learners in the following ways: ● There is a tutorial tool students can use if they forget a step or need a refresher on how to create a popplet. ● There is a zoom in feature for visually impaired students.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will introduce the lesson by having the students engage in a whole group discussion about the four seasons of the year. They will discuss the physical characteristics (i.e. cold, hot, warm, etc.), what holidays occur, what kind of clothing is worn, and what activities occur. Then each student will be instructed to open the Popplet website on their computers, and given a short tutorial on how to utilize the features of Popplet. They will then be instructed to create a Popplet about the seasons (fall, spring, summer, and winter). In their Popplet they should include some of the subjects included in the classroom discussion. This project will take two to three days to complete, and when all of the students have finished they will present their Popplets to the class. Their presentation should include an explanation of their the things they chose to include in their Popplet, why they chose them, and which holiday they like the best. As a class, we will compare each student’s Popplet to our original class discussion. Reflective Practice: To further extend this lesson, will work together as a class to create a single Popplet that combines the information each student had in their Popplet. We will categorize each characteristic into the category of fall, spring, summer, and winter based on our whole group discussion. Visual representations could also be added.
