Inti Pembelajaran
memiliki penutup isolator.
• Pastikan melakukan cek fungsi ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) sebelum digunakan.
A person died...
An employee suffered an electrocution while operating a portable drill…
On December 15, 2012 around 10.40 hrs, an electrical shock to an SCCC employee was reported at the switch yard
of Plant #2 Substation. The employee was found to have lost consciousness while sitting and holding the portable
drill. He was working using a 220v electric drill boring holes for the support of a new lightning arrester on a metal
stage. As result of the investigation it was determined that a faulty air-compressor that was marked with a “Red
Sticker” (Banned from use) was found in the area at the same time this fatality occurred. Further, the initial wiring
from the box supply was found to be faulty in that the earth was not connected. Of the two ELCB’s (Earth Leakage
Circuit Breaker) that were part of the circuit, one was found to be faulty and the other did not trip as the
current was running through the earth of the ELCB due to the faulty of the air compressor. As soon as the
employee operated the drill (that had a metal cover) the circuit was completed and he suffered an electrocution.
He succumbed to his injuries on January 30, 2013.
Key Learnings
If applicable, please consider the following aspects:
Do not allow to bring the electrical equipment without approval on-site, use equipment tagged with a Green
sticker “approved for use”.
• Ensure grounding system will be completely connected to the earth.
• If possible, try to avoid the electrical equipment with metal cases use of fully insulated tools.
• Ensure to test ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) before work.
• Schedule a regular review of all outlets to ensure earth is functioning and wired correctly.
