Egyptian gods

In ancient Egypt there were over seven hundred gods. Some deities were created by merging the
characteristics of various gods. For the ancient Egyptians the ka of the gods lived on Earth, images
of their temples, and had to venerate. For that, prayed, danced, they sang and brought them
offerings of valuables, food and clothing.

For more than three thousand years of ancient Egyptian history, religion hardly evolved. However,
in some periods, certain gods became dominant while others went to the sidelines as every cult,
was from a different region, and the importance of each god also varied according to the region's
influence in the rest of Egypt. Akhenaten, modernly known as the heretic pharaoh, imposed during
his short reign, a monotheistic religion (or henotheistic) centered on the worship of the sun disk:
Aton.

The gods were invisible beings, usually as Horus, although they could be embodied in tangible
things, like Pharaoh, or be the ka of certain animals, like the bull Apis. These gods were
represented with human or animal figures, sometimes mixed.

Ancient Egypt was a civilization that arose when grouped settlements on the banks of the middle
reaches and lower reaches of the Nile River. He had three periods of splendor in the periods
referred to by the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom historians. He is reaching from
the Nile Delta in the north to Elephantine Island (now Aswan, near the first cataract of the Nile in
the south), reaching influence from the Euphrates to Jebel Barkal, the fourth cataract of the Nile in
times of maximum expansion. Its territory also included, at different times, the Eastern Desert and
the Red Sea coastline, the Sinai Peninsula and Great Western territory that dominated the
scattered oases. Historically, it was divided into Upper and Lower Egypt, south and north,
respectively (see: Kemet).

Egyptian civilization developed for over 3000 years. It began with the unification of several cities in
the Nile Valley, one around 3150. C., 2 and is given conventionally terminated in 31. BC, when the
Roman Empire conquered and absorbed Ptolemaic Egypt, which disappears as Status.3 This event
did not represent the first period of foreign domination, but it was leading to a gradual
transformation in the political and religious life of the Nile valley , marking the end of independent
development of their culture. Their cultural identity had begun to gradually diluted after the
conquests of the kings of Babylon (VI century BC.) And Macedonia (IV century. BC), religion
disappearing with the advent of Christianity, in the time of Justinian I when in 535 it was forbidden
to worship the goddess Isis in Philae Temple.
Egypt has a unique combination of geographical features, located in the northeast Africa bordered
by Sudan and Libya, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile was the key to the success
of the Egyptian civilization, as it allowed the use of resources and offered a significant advantage
over other opponents: the fertile silt deposited along the banks of the Nile after the annual floods
meant for Egyptians practicing a less laborious agriculture than in other areas, freeing people to
devote more time and resources to cultural, technological and artistic development.

Life is ordered around the development of a writing system and a separate literature as well as on
a careful state control over natural and human resources, characterized mainly by irrigation of the
fertile Nile basin and mining Valley and surrounding desert regions, the organization of collective
projects and large public works, trade with the neighboring regions of eastern and central Africa
and the eastern Mediterranean and, finally, by a military force capable of defeating any enemy,
and who maintained an imperial hegemony and territorial domination of neighboring civilizations
in different periods. Motivating and organizing these activities was entrusted to a bureaucracy of
sociopolitical and economic elite scribes, under the control of Pharaoh a semi-divine character,
belonging to a succession of dynasties, which ensured the cooperation and unity of the Egyptian
people in the context of an elaborate system of beliefs religiosas.4 5

The many achievements of the Egyptians include mining, surveying and construction techniques
that facilitated the rise of monumental pyramids, temples and obelisks, a mathematical
procedures, effective medical practice, irrigation methods and agricultural production techniques,
the first known ships, 6 glass technology and faience, new forms of literature and the oldest peace
treaty known hititas.7 signed with Egypt left a lasting legacy, its art and architecture were widely
copied, and its antiquities were carried to the farthest corners of the world. Its monumental ruins
have inspired the imaginations of travelers and writers for centuries. A newfound respect for
antiquities and excavations in the modern period led to the scientific investigation of Egyptian
civilization and a greater appreciation of his legacy cultural.8
