THE VALUE OF PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy can be defined as the study of the elementary nature of understanding,

actuality, and existent more so if considered to be a discipline in academic. Because we are now

living in a world where everything is put to serious doubts unless proven scientifically, a lot of

people end up questioning the importance of studying philosophy and the role it plays in our

society in general(Thorpe, L. (2016). To solve the question regarding philosophy, we will look at

four different answers.

First, being inquisitive is a normal thing for a human being. Little kids never cease to ask

questions and so they can be referred to as very wonderful philosophers (Beer, A. 2018).

Nevertheless, one may want to ask if it is a must for us to commit to entirely everything that is

instinctive. Rather one may argue that he does not find it innate to theorize.

Second, it can be so pressurizing to pontificate. It is human nature to derive pleasure in

questioning almost anything and everything and suggesting possibilities. Conceivably, that is the

reason Plato referred to it as theorizing the delight that is so dear. However, it is not an anomaly

if it does not please you.

Third, we plead to the usefulness of philosophy. In this life, any knowledge you get

cannot be termed as useless, similarly if by studying philosophy you gain some wisdom, then it

worth giving it a try but we have to understand not everyone values wisdom unless it offers

tangible benefits. It is upon you to decide whether the pursuit of this kind of knowledge is worth

the effort.
