1. SCOPE

The Scope of this procedure is to outline the minimum requirement of materials


storage, protection/preservation shall maintain by SEG throughout the project and
this procedure should be used in conjunction with Schedule"Q" and Company
Specifications requirements.
2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to define the controls to be applied on all projects
(shop and site) for the storage, protection and Preservation of all materials and
equipment.

5.1 Material Control Engineer Material Control engineer may oversee
implementation of the Material Storage, Protection and Preservation procedure,
material handling, receiving, storage and issuance of items. He shall ensure
availability of quality materials and implement an effective system for tracking and
monitoring of project-intended items to ensure timely serving of the project material
requirements and its proper traceability

5.2 QC Inspector QC Inspectors shall do surveillance inspection to oversee the


implementation of this procedure throughout the project

6.0 PROCEDURE (GENERAL REQUIREMENTS)


6.1 Pipes and pipeline materials arrive at the site and shop in various forms of
fabrication including fabricated spools, assemblies, random lengths of pipe, and
fittings. All materials shall be suitably stored and protected from the site conditions.
Materials subject to sea spray, blowing dust and sand, freezing or elevated
temperatures may require special storage precautions

6.2 For coded shipments such as pipe, steel plate etc. will be off loaded in
designated lay down storage area, roped off and designated as a hold area until
Quality Control is notified via Material Inspection Notice.

6.3 For material that is rejected, it will remain in quarantine area; a red hold tag
will be affixed by Quality Control(reason for reject and ,project name, date shall be
clearly marked)

SEG purchased or Aramco issued materials which are found to be:


a. Damaged,
b. Not to specification,
c. Not capable of being readily identified.

6.4 Shall be placed in a clearly marked quarantine area (whenever practicable)


and the description of the defects recorded. Non-conforming material awaiting

disposition is marked with a QC Hold Tag. Non-conformances are documented and
resolved via Non-conformance Report by QC Inspector/ Engineer. The materials
shall not be used until clearance has been obtained.

6.5 Where it is not practicable to place materials to a quarantine area, they


shall be clearly marked or labelled to indicate their "quarantine" status.

6.6 For SEG supplied materials, the Project Manager and QC Manager shall
agree the appropriate course of action for the quarantined items and complete the
remedial action section of the Non-conformance Report. The QC Manager shall
record the actions taken to clear the quarantined items on the Non-conformance
Report.
6.7 In the event that a satisfactory solution cannot be achieved for the
quarantined items, they shall be returned to the vendor or Client as applicable with
the approval of the Project Manager. The QC Manager shall state the reason for the
rejection on the Non-conformance report. Material Controller shall prepare a
Rejection note and copy to all concerned personals

6.8 Whenever it is a project requirement, the material grades of pipe and


fittings shall be identified by means of a color code, which shall be applied upon
receipt of the materials. The color coding and type of paint to be used shall be as
per approved procedure .CS pipe material no color coding will be done.

6.9 lt is essential that adequate racks, bins, packing, pallets, etc. be provided
for the storage of materials inside the warehouse, with sufficient passageways to
afford ease of access for trolleys etc. Materials must not be stored directly on the
ground. Sensitive materials shall be kept in house and in controlled temperature,
environment, as applicable

7. MATERIAL MARKING, IDENTIFICATION/ RECEIPTS OF MATERIAL

Every consignment of materials purchased and received by SEG, shall be recorded


on the Materials Receiving Report. All material allocated for each project, Work
order shall be collected together and stored suitably. All such lot shall be marked /
tagged with the Project Number, Work order number, Pipeline job number as
applicable.
All pipe and fitting have the material Specification and grade stamped, stenciled
otherwise clearly marked with permanent marking method.
All pipes, fittings, flanges, and gaskets, materials shall be sourced from approved
manufacturers and shall comply with the applicable Saudi Aramco and industry
specification. This should be confirmed through proper material identifications and
certifications which shall be verified by the QC inspector-mechanical.

Valves shall be sourced from approved manufacturers and shall comply with the applicable
Saudi Aramco and industry specifications.

8. STORAGE AND PROTECTION AT STOCKYARD

8.1 Storage and protection methods shall be suitable for the site conditions.
Some materials, such as machined ferrous surfaces, are more sensitive to the
environmental conditions and require more frequent preventative maintenance.

8.2 Storage and lay down areas shall be designed so that they are well drained. All bulks
stored outside shall be elevated above the ground and above the maximum water run-off. Bulks
shall be stored in a manner that facilitates routine inspection and preventative. Maintenance
Storage methods shall protect materials from infiltration of water, dust, dirt, vermin, insects,
etc. Materials shall not be stored in non-drainable positions, which will tap water. Sensitive
materials, such as stainless steel and non-metallic, are properly stored and protected by
polyethylene sheets

Every consignment of materials purchased or received by SEG, shall be recorded on the
Materials Receiving Report. The Material Controller shall produce the Materials Receiving
Report (MRR) as soon as possible or within 24 hours of the arrival of the SEG Purchased
materials. SEG Material controller should generate MRR and RFI for the free issue client
cleared material for getting clearance from SEG QC prior to release material to
Construction.

10. DAMMAGE
Damaged materials shall be documented, photographed and reported. Report shall
indicate the reason for the condition of the materials. The receiving inspector shall record
condition of materials on the material receiving record so that the Materials personnel
can take necessary corrective measures. All damaged materials shall be stored separate
from undamaged materials.

11. TRACEABILITY
Materials shall be inspected for proper markings in accordance with project standards
and the purchase order. Material traceability must be maintained at all times. Impact
tested carbon steel (LTCS) materials shall be color coded and segregated from normal
materials during storage. Alloy verified material should be segregated at all times from
other materials.

12. NON-METALLIC'S

Exposed rubber parts shall be wrapped in opaque plastic covers secured with tape or
otherwise sealed. Desiccants shall not be used to protect rubber or components with
rubber parts. Openings shall be protected from mechanical damage by end caps. Non-
metallic materials shall be protection from UV exposure, high temperature and
mechanical abuse

All materials shall be stored on suitable dunnage to keep them clear of the ground and to
provide ventilation around materials to allow moisture evaporation. Fibrous dunnage materials
that can absorb moisture (e.g., pressed board, cardboard, softwood, etc.) shall not be used to
support or separate materials. Any fibrous dunnage materials located shall be removed and
replaced with suitable dunnage. Materials stored in the stockyard must be laid on sleepers,
transverse timbers or racks and segregated as follows

14. MECHANICAL END PROTECTION

Protective seals (e.g., covers, plugs, caps, etc.) shall be inspected and if found to
be ineffective shall be restored or replaced. All openings shall be fully capped,
plugged or covered to prevent damage and ingress of moisture and foreign matter.
Wood covers may be used on flanges provided an impervious membrane is placed
between the wood and greased flange face. Threaded ends shall be protected with
high impact plastic wedge type protectors

15. VALVES
15.1 Special care and consideration shall be taken during handling and transporting of
valve against mechanical damage.
15.2 Critical points of the valves such as the valve end ports shall be protected and
placed with the vale stem up right. Valves stored outdoor must be protected from
blowing sand and salt spray or water.
15.3 All valves shall be complying with shipment preparation requirement during
transportation, handling and field storing at all times.
15.4 Large automatic control valves such as slide valve and motor operated valves may
be stored outdoors on a paved area, or on pallets, if a shed roof and tarpaulin
siding (or equivalent) are provided. Actuators on control valves and motor operated
valves shall be protected against mechanical damage .All conduit connections shall
be covered to prevent water entry.

15.5 Small size valves below 4" shall be stored inside the warehouse positioned
carefully to prevent any damage .plug and ball valves shall be store in the opened
position .valves with a spring actuator shall be stored in the position that the spring
is in relaxed position.
15.6 Transportation
, lifting and handling of valves shall be carried out safely by
appropriate equipment and trained personnel.
15.7 Valves shall be stored in the close condition, unless they have a spring actuator,
then the valve should be stored in the position such that the spring is in a relaxed
position
15.8 Control valves shall be stored in accordance with the manufacturer's storage

procedures and requirements.

15.9 Flange protectors shall be left on until the valve is ready to be installed

16. FLANGE FACING

Flange facings on all piping shall be protected at all times during fabrication and
construction. The use of mechanical flange protectors should be maximized, in
addition to coating with the appropriate preservative. All high-pressure flanges
(Class 1500 and higher) shall be fitted with robust metal protective caps during
shipment and storage onsite.
The flange facing, particularly the seating area, shall be visually examined for
cleanliness and ensure that no damage, such as scratches exist for ring joint type
flanges, the ring and the ring groove shall be free of damage and dirt.

17. NUTS BOLTS AND GASKETS

17.1 Nuts, bolts and washers shall be kept in sealed watertight containers if stored
outside. Gaskets shall be sleeved in polyethylene and heat-sealed or maintained in
water proof vapor barrier packages if stored outside.
17.2 Spiral wound gaskets shall be free from any damage particularly in the seating
element and stored flat especially for large sizes, 24 inches and larger

17.3 Lubricants shall be not used in the gasket and gasket seating area

17.4 Bolts, nuts and washers shall be visually checked for proper size, grade, and
dimension and for any physical damage to shanks or threads which would affect
the bolt assembly or performance.
17.5 Proper lubricants for bolts and nuts shall be used. Lubricant for bolts and nuts shall be
jet lube SS-30 or other applicable lubricants listed Table -SAEP-351-01.

18. PIPES
Pipe stored in the storage yard shall be placed on level timbers or pallets providing good
ground clearance. Pipe openings shall be protected from entry of rain and foreign matter
until closure welds are made. Internal spiders shall be maintained on large diameter thin
wall pipe to prevent out-of-roundness.

19. FABRICATED PIPE ASSEMBLIES


Fabricated pipe shall be placed on level timbers or pallets providing good ground clearance.
Pipe openings shall be protected from entry of rain and foreign matter until closure welds are
made. Fabricated assemblies shall be maintained in shipping packages to prevent mechanical
damage. Also regarding the insulation material shall be store on wooden planks in order to
avoid contact with sand. For civil raw material s (eg: concrete coating materials) shall be
stored and preserved as per manufacturers recommendations.

20. EQUIPMENTS
20.1 Storage and protective care shall be reviewed by contractor representative and
shall be strictly follow when transmitted to the field.

20.2 Verify the Equipment's flanges and man-ways if close and protected with temporary blind
flanges and covers, if not, cover it with correct temporary flanges. Carton or Paper is not
allowed.

20.3 All equipment and material shall be stored free from direct ground contact and
away from areas subject to pounding of water.

20.4 For outdoor storage, even cross-cut timber with at least a 10 centimeter x 10
centimeter (4 inch x 4 inch nominal) cross section, laid flat and level, shall be used
for lay down. Equipment weight shall be considered when selecting timber size.
Warped timber is not acceptable. Timbers shall be placed perpendicular to major
support structures and shall be full width of the skid or base.
20.5 Plate. Temporary protective coverings shall allow free air circulation to
prevent humidity condensation and collection of water.
20.6 All carbon and low alloy steel shall be protected from any contact with
corrosive atmospheres or wet atmospheres so as to prevent rust formation.
20.7 Protective measures, such as using tarpaulin as covers to prevent from getting
damped and foreign matters from entering into the interior of equipment, it
shall be provide for larger items and parts, which are stored outdoors and
cannot be installed within a very short time.
