Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, burying the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash and killing over 10,000 people. The massive eruption began with an explosion that shot ash high into the air, coating the cities in inches of ash and rock over the next day. Residents tried to flee but many died from inhaling toxic gases. Herculaneum was initially spared due to wind direction but was later buried under 20 meters of material from lava and rock flows. The cities lay undiscovered for nearly two millennia until excavations began in the 18th century. Vesuvius remains active today and has erupted dozens of times since, serving as a reminder of nature's destructive power.

2000 years ago, there was a massive eruption of Vesuvius
volcano not far from the southern tip of Italy. It is said that it was the first eruption after the volcano was asleep for centuries. Mount Vesuvius which according to legend means "Son Ves / Zeus" aka Hercules, located in the area near the Bay of Naples Campagnia, not far from the industrial and trading city of Pompeii when it has a population of more than 20 thousand inhabitants. Nearby there is also a summer resort town of Herculaneum, which filled villas, Roman baths, and do not forget the gambling. All around you can find extensive wineries, as well as some smaller cities like Stabiae. from Wikipedia before noon on August 24, Vesuvius exploded, scattering the ashes thick clumps which can be described like mushrooms or pine tree. As depicted Pliny the Younger, the philosopher who was in the Bay of Naples during the eruption occurred, in his letter to Tacitus, ash thrown high up into the top like a trunk, then widened and eventually trickle down to earth. High bursts are believed to reach 30 kilometers, and for nearly 12 hours later, Pompeii like coated volcanic ash and gravel a few inches thick. Pompeii residents panicked and began to flee out of town, leaving 2,000 people who still survive in hiding holes waiting for the eruption ended. But at the latest the next day, they died because of poisoning after inhaling gas and volcanic ash. Victims of Vesuvius, while Herculaneum while still saved on the initial phase because the wind was blowing from the west. But the real population of Herculaneum is situated closer to Vesuvius, no relief was too long. Clumps of ash and gas followed by the eruption of lava and rocks submerge the city by more than 20 meters. Temperatures reached 400 degrees Celsius create organic objects such as human body scorched, or even explode. The eruption lasted for nearly 24 hours, at which Vesuvius releasing four cubic miles of it implies, mainly ash and rocks. The region that suffered the worst damage was in southern and southeastern regions of the mountain. The total number of victims who died reached 10 thousand people. Pompeii and Herculaneum were never rebuilt by the-ex-residents who survived, until accidentally rediscovered in the 18th century. But Vesuvius is still standing upright. He still had erupted dozens of times until the last time in 1944. Although high peak current is only 1281 meters from sea level, the only volcano still active European continent will always be reminded of nature that can be ferociously destroy a city. And we, the people of Indonesia, is also reasonable given that the volcanoes around us should be aware of activity. Moreover, because Indonesia still holds the record for highest number of deaths due to volcanic eruptions, namely the eruption of Mount Tambora (Sumbawa, April 1815) which took 92 thousand inhabitants.
