Abstract
This project depicts the idea of

▪ Controlling the traffic flow under the dense traffic condition with optimal timing. As there is static timing currently.

▪ Provide a smooth path for Life emergency vehicles (such as Ambulance, Fire brigade vehicles, Police Patrols, etc).

▪ Also provide a smooth and secure path for National Security Service Vehicles.

▪ Continuously monitor the traffic rule violation.

▪ Ensure the pedestrian safety while crossing the road.

Introduction
In the modern world one of the major problem faced by metropolitan and cosmopolitan cities is the traffic
Congestion and management.
Traffic congestion leads to :

Waiting time of motorists and passengers at the traffic signals is a non-productive activity which
reduces regional economic health.

Delays, which may result in late arrival for employment, meetings, and education, business, disciplinary
action or other personal losses.

Wasted fuel increasing air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions owing to increase global warming.

Emergencies: Dense traffic restricts the emergency vehicles free and fast moment to reach their
destinations.

The major problem faced by National Security Service Vehicles is the proper clearance of path.

Pedestrian's safety.
Literature Survey
• Design of Traffic Lights Controlling System Based on PLC and Configuration Technology -
IEEE 2009

In the system, the original relay wiring was replaced by the program, and the hardware and software
resources of PLC were used reasonably[1].

• PLC Based Traffic Control System with Emergency Vehicle Detection and Management - IEEE
2017

As soon as the emergency signal becomes low, the system instantly jumps back to the retained state of
the normal sequence. Emergency Signal detection is RFID based[2].
Objectives

∆ Provide density based traffic monitoring system.

∆ Prioritize emergency service vehicles.

∆ Give confine free path for National Security Service Vehicle.

∆ Continuous monitoring the traffic rule violation.

∆ Ensure safe path for the pedestrians.

Impacts
Traditional traffic control is based on static time.

Waiting Time at the junction is reduced.

Fuel wastage is reduced.

Production of pollutant and flue is minimised.

Lives of the people in the emergency vehicle is saved.

Compact and economic design.

Safe and Secure path for the National Security Service Vehicles are effectively managed.
Applications

Real Time Monitoring of traffic control is possible.

This system can be implemented with the current system directly with slight changes.

The idea of complete project can be implemented in the next generation Smart Cities with extra
features.

Due to continuous monitoring and data collection will be helping in taking actions and leads to
further development of existing system.
Results

• Smooth traffic flow at busy junction based on density of traffic.

• Continuously monitor the traffic and capture the image of the traffic rule violated vehicle and
process it for the further actions.

• Provided a fast flow for the special vehicles (like ambulance, National security service, etc.).

• Ensured the pedestrian safety while crossing the road.

Future Works

Advancement can be done by replacing the IR sensors by a Single Camera sensors at the
junction to monitor and control in a very effective manner.

The signals can be further connected to the Internet and can be controlled through the cloud.

Traffic rule violators can be given a notice through an email.
