EXPERIMENT 4

Gay-Lussac’s Law

NAME: ________________________________________________SCORE:____________________________

GRADE AND SECTION:___________________________ GROUP No.:_________- DATE PERFORFOMED:_______________

Objective: Investigate the relationship between temperature and pressure at constant volume.

Materials: 110C thermometer, Erlenmeyer flask/ bottle, cork or rubber stopper, denatured alcohol, and liquid dropper

Procedure:

1. Insert the thermometer into the stopper. Precaution: Lubricate the thermometer with a small amount of
oil or grease before insertion.
2. Put five (5) drops of denatured alcohol in the Erlenmeyer flask/ bottle.
3. Cover the Erlenmeyer flask with the stopper that you prepared in procedure 1. The size of the stopper
should fit the mouth of the Erlenmeyer flask. Wait for 2 minutes before measuring the temperature.
4. Shake the Erlenmeyer flask for 2 minutes and take the temperature reading.
CAUTIONS: carefully hold the thermometer to avoid breakage.
5. Record the data.

2 2.0 200
3 3.0 300
4 4.0 400

Plot the table 1.1 in graph by placing the pressure (atm) in y axis and temperature ( K ) in x axis

What kind of relationship is depicted in the graph?______________________________________________________
