2.2 Installation
2.2.1 Minimum Requirements
Any Windows PC or Laptop with the following characteristics:
- RAM 1 GB or above
- Free Disk space of at least 100MB or more
- Microsoft Excel 2010-2013-2016, updated to the latest Service Packs
- Administrator’s rights at the user’s Windows Account in order to run installation only

2.2.2 Limitations
In case of a Network installation, one user is allowed to have full control of the program
(open/change/print/save), where at the same time unlimited users can use it as Read-Only
(open/change/print). Every user opening the program will be asked if the program will open with full
control or as Read-Only, until someone takes the full control. Then, if the full control has already been
given to a user, all other users opening the program will be informed for the name of the user that has now
the control of the program.

Please read detailed instructions at the section of this manual:

“Tips & Tricks” / “Multi Users simultaneous Program access”

2.2.3 Installation Path

2.2.3.1 Recommended Path

In order to enjoy all benefits of the program (i.e. import and export functions into the predefined folders
etc), it is strongly recommended to install the program at a path like
“C:\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\”,
where destination disk can be changed, but the rest of the path should always remain as is, i.e.
“M:\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\”.

Examples of suggested paths: Examples of NOT suggested paths:

C:\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\ C:\Program Files… (Not suggested)
(suggested for Local installations)
M:\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\ C:\MyDocuments… (Not suggested)
(suggested for Network installations)*
M:\Various… (Not suggested)
*: Letter “M” is hypothetical and given as an example of any mapped network drive letter.

2.2.3.2 Map Network Drive

In order the program to be accessible from many users of a network within an organization, the program
has to be installed at a network drive. If a drive letter already exists, you can proceed with the installation,
taking into consideration the recommendations given at the above paragraph, related to Recommended
Path.
If a network drive letter is not available, then ask from your IT engineer to create it for you.

2.2.4 Installing Program for the first time

Double click on downloaded file, i.e. “TMSA Manager v3.00.msi”.
Follow the installation process as shown at the below screenshots:

Instruction Manual v3.00 b2.01 - Page 12 of 34

TMSA Manager by AMS-Marine Services

If “C:\” is not the desirable destination disk, edit the installation path by changing the disk drive letter.
An example is given below, where the drive letter has been changed from “C” to “M”.
Attention: Remember that the final path should always remain of a format like
“C:\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\” with the ability to change drive letter “C:\”, but not the rest of the
path “\AMS-Marine\TMSA Manager\”.

Instruction Manual v3.00 b2.01 - Page 13 of 34

TMSA Manager by AMS-Marine Services

Repeat the same procedure for all users in the network, using always the same Network Drive path.
- Setup will only add any files or folders missing from the original installation and will add shortcuts
for the new user at his PC.
- Existing files and folders will remain as they are, making this action safe for the files containing
your data, regardless of the time you will decide to add a new user.

2.2.5 Re-installing the same version of the Program at the same PC

If for any reason wish to re-install the same version of the program in order to repair installation at the
same PC, you should know the following:
- Setup will only add any files, folders, shortcuts are
missing from the original installation.
- Existing files and folders will remain as they are,
making this action safe for the files containing your
data.

Press the “Repair” button in order to Re-install program:

2.2.6 Upgrading to a new program version (Always within TMSA Manager v3.xx)
Running a newer version of the Setup file, will cause the old program installation to be automatically
removed and the new program to be installed.
What you should know before this action:

While removing the old version…

- Program file where the whole database is kept will be deleted, as it is a part of the original
installation.
- All installation files, folders and shortcuts will be deleted, except these files/folders created at a
later time after the installation, i.e. Export files inside program folders etc. The surviving files can
be used at any later time you will install the same or a newer program version.
For that reason, “Export All TMSA Database” is necessary to be executed before starting this
procedure, in order to find this export after the new version installation and restore it.

While installing the new version…

- Setup will install all new original files, folders and shortcuts.
- All files/folders created at a later time after the old installation, i.e. Export files inside program
folders etc., will survive from the removal of the old version and from the installation of the new
one. The survived files can be used with the new version normally.
For that reason, “Import All TMSA Database” is necessary to be executed, in order to load the
old data at the new Program.

A whole copy of the old Program file where all your data is included as well as a copy of the folders
with documents and photos, to an independent place, is always suggested to be kept.

2.2.7 Remove Program

What you should know before this action:
- Program file where the whole database is kept will be deleted, as it is a part of the original
installation.
- All installation files, folders and shortcuts will be deleted, except these files/folders created at a
later time after the installation, i.e. Export files inside program folders etc. The surviving files can
be used at any later time you will install the same or a newer program version.

This action can be done either by running the Setup file or by clicking on the “Uninstall” shortcut of the
Windows Start Menu:

3.2 Backup & Database Export

There are two ways for securing your data, through MS Excel Backup and through our function called
“Export All TMSA Database”:

3.2.1 MS Excel Backup

Every time the Program is saved, it keeps a backup of the whole Program file. At every save to the main
Program, its previous state will be saved as backup, always into the same folder.
Thus, if the main Program file named “TMSA Manager v3.00.xlsm”, the backup file will have the name
“Backup of TMSA Manager v3.00.xlk”.
The Backup file will allow the User to return to the very last state, in case needed i.e. due to an accidental
change at the database, followed by a Program save.

you are a TMSA Manager Administrator, the program will give you the opportunity to open it in order to

5. Tips and Tricks

5.1 Multi Users Simultaneous Program access

The first user - each time - that will open the Program, will have the absolute control to edit / save data
into the Program.
The next users that will open the Program, they will receive a notification:

Users have the following options:

1. To cancel the program opening and ask from the user that presently has the control to quit
program. Then, to repeat opening the program, having now full command.
2. To open the program as “Read Only”. In such
case, the users can view / print or even edit
data, but they cannot save the Program and
store the changes they have done.
3. To choose “Notify” (Recommended), which will have the same results as the “Read Only” option
has, but a notification option informing all the “Read Only” users when file is closed from the user
previously had the control.
By choosing “Cancel” at the notification message below, user denies taking the control and
continues working at the Program as a “Read Only” user.
In order the user to take the control of the Program, the “Read-Write” option should be chosen.

If user chooses “Read-Write”, he will be asked if he wants to throw away the changes he done at
the “Read Only” file.
Press “Discard” in order to close the “Read Only” file and open the original Program file.

The Program will open and the user will be the one that has now the control.
