3.3 RC

3.3.1 General
The Radiography Control Unit (RC) is divided in two printed circuit boards: the NPRCB
and the RC-I/O. These boards communicate through a dual fiber optic cable. During
acquisition image frames data in the camera are dumped to the NPRCB and sent forward
to the DEEB while room control and x-ray related signals are interfaced through the
RC-IO to the NPRCB and then to the software.

3.3.2 NPRCB
The NPRCB board is located in a PCI slot of the MPU. Images composed of 1024x1024
pixels/frame by 12bits/pixel are dumped from the camera to the NPRCB at a rate up to
30f/sec. The incoming pixels are analyzed by a real-time histogram and then corrected for
equalization, blemishes, circular blank and other proprietary functions. The corrected
images are then sent to the DEEB via two dedicated video bus.
Main features of the NPRCB are:
• Sustained high-rate acquisition of 1024 x 1024 x 8-bit @ 30 fps or 1024 x 1024 x
10bits @ 15 fps, for 10 seconds (with High-Rate option)
• 10-bit real time histogram calculation
• Offset correction
• Gain correction
• Blemish correction
• Automatic cine review directly from on-board memory

3.3.3 RC-IO
The RC-I/O board is located in the Power Distribution Unit (Rack). The RC_IO interfaces
to the X-ray room host system (x-ray generator, table, I.I., Injector, etc.).
The RC-I/O includes a daughter board named IOB that controls the camera IRIS as well
as interfaces the host system analog signals.
Additional daughter board named BFSE (optional) is connected to the opposite side of the
RC_IO. This board relays the power of the camera and is used for automatic camera reset
in case of the MPU failure (Emergency Fluoro).

The following block diagram describes the main modules and interconnections of the
NPRCB, RC-IO and IOB.

3.4 BFSB
The Backup Fluoroscopy Switch Board connects as a daughter board to the RC_IO. A 15V
power supply connects as power-in to the BFSB and then continues through an
optocoupled relay as power-out to the Camera CCU. In case of emergency, like a serious
MPU failure, the RC_IO main control module will be notified via the watchdog unit. As a
result, the relay on the BFSB will be turned off and on again, resulting in Camera
automatic reset. This power reset will enter the Camera into internal independent
continuous interlaced operation (master mode) enabling visualization of continuous
Fluoroscopy mode (this is provided also by controlling the Fluoroscopy request signal in
emergency mode and the video switcher auto switching the CCU video signal directly to
the In Room Monitor). In case of need it is possible to bypass the BFSB board by
disconnecting the power cables and connecting them directly to each other (shunt
connection).

3.6 Modes Of Operation

3.6.1 General
The ADR-1000A supports 5 modes of operation :
1. STAND BY
2. FLUORO
i) FL (Continuous Fluoro)
ii) PFL (Pulsed Fluoro)
3. PHOTOSPOT
i) DR (Digital Radiography)
ii) DA (Digital Angiography)
iii) DSA (Digital Subtracted Angiography)
iv) High Rate acquisition, (15 or 30 PPS).
v) BOLUS DA
vi) BOLUS DSA
4. SPOT (Film Radiography)
i) (FSS) Film Spot Shot
ii) (SVS) Spot View Shot
5. BACKUP FLUORO (EMERGENCY BYPASS).
3.6.2 Stand By
Default mode. This mode applies when none of the foot/hand switches are
activated.
3.6.3 Fluoro
3.6.3.1 Continuous Fluoroscopy (FL)
The ADR-1000A enters this mode when the Fluoro foot switch is asserted PF
mode = 0 and ends this mode when Fluoro foot switch is released.
Fluoro foot switch assertion generates FLREQ “active” to ADR-1000A.
RC_IO then sends interrupt FLREQ to software.
When all conditions are met, ADR system returns acknowledge FLGNT to
host system and start to integrate from camera.
Fluoro foot switch released, generates FLREQ “inactive” to ADR-1000A.
RC_IO generates stop interrupt upon Debounced FLREQ inactive.
Software, upon stop interrupt requests, disables FLGRT and INTEGRATE
outputs.
If the Radiography Hand Switch is depressed during Fluoro foot switch,
Fluoroscopy is aborted and the system enters the selected radio mode.
3.6.3.2 Pulse Fluoro (PFL)
Before entering this mode the user should select Pulsed Fluoro (PF) button and
the desired PF Rate.
The ADR 1000A enters this mode when the Fluoro foot switch is asserted and
ends this mode when Fluoro foot switch is released.

Boards And Signals Description 3-14

CMT Medical Technologies Ltd. ADR-1000A Maintenance Manual
REV 2.1

In addition to the continuous Fluoro handshake signals, the ADR 1000A

outputs a PF Trigger Pulse that triggers the generator at the requested rate
status. The system will respond to changes in the PF rate status at all times.
3.6.4 Photospot (DR, DA, DSA, BOLUS DA, BOLUS DSA)
The ADR-1000A System enters this mode when PREPREQ is activated
(usually when first step of double step Hand switch is asserted) and ends when
PREPREQ is negated.
RC_IO generates PREP interrupt upon PREPREQ.
SW responds with PREPACK (if valid) sets mirror position (F_POS &
R_POS- if valid) and camera’s gain & IRIS position.
EXPREQ activation (usually second step of Hand switch assertion) generates
EXPREQ interrupt from RC_IO to software. Software responds with
EXPACK triggering the generator for an X-ray pulse. Upon receiving the
generator feedback EXON, indicating the actual X-ray pulse, ADR system
will initiate light integration to the Camera CCD till negation of EXON. Upon
negation of EXON, Camera transfers the frame from CCD and sends the data
to the NEW PRCB, then it is sent to DEEB and then to the display monitors
and to the disk. If series acquisition was selected additional EXPACK will be
sent to trigger the generator for pulses at the rate that was selected by the user.
Inactivation of EXPREQ (first step Hand switch release), holds the system in
Photospot mode. If then PREPREQ is deactivated, the system will exit
Photospot mode.

3.6.5 Film Radiography (Spot)

3.6.5.1 Film Spot Shot (FSS)
The system enters into this mode when FR mode is selected, Spot-view signal
is not active and Hand switch is depressed (first step of hand switch).
System ends this mode when Hand and switch is released.
Signal flow:

• Hand switch depression activates READY signal (before PREPREQ

signal) which is detected by ADR-1000A.
• ADR-1000A switches to FSS mode when it detects READY active and
PREPREQ, EXPREQ and SPOT VIEW not active.
• ADR-1000A sets FSS mode - Iris & gain.
• During EXON, ADR-1000A Camera integrates light from I.I.
• ADR-1000A displays a flash of light.
• Upon HSW release READY signal is negated (as well as PREPREQ and
EXPREQ).
• ADR-1000A exits Film Spot Shot mode.

Boards And Signals Description 3-15

CMT Medical Technologies Ltd. ADR-1000A Maintenance Manual
REV 2.1

3.6.5.2 Spot View Shot (SVS)

System enters this mode when FR mode is selected, Spot-view signal is active
and Hand switch is depressed (first step of hand switch).
System ends this mode when Hand and switch is released.
Signal flow:
• Hand switch depression activates READY signal (before PREPREQ
signal) which is detected by ADR-1000A.
• ADR-1000A switches to SVS mode when it detects READY and SPOT
VIEW active, and PREPREQ and EXPREQ not active.
• ADR-1000A sets SVS mode - Iris & gain.
• During EXON, ADR-1000A Camera integrates light from I.I. till EXON is
off.
• ADR-1000A acquires and displays the image on the monitors (without
automatic saving of the image to the disk).
• Hand switch release generates READY not active to ADR-1000A.
• ADR-1000A exits Film Spot Shot mode.

3.6.6 Backup Fluoro (Emergency Bypass)

After less than 200ms, from powering up the ADR-1000A system, RC_IO and
the Camera CCU loads from their NOVRAM to their main programmable
chips, the Bypass configuration and the system enters Backup Fluoro mode.
This configuration includes setting the Camera to continuous interlace mode,
setting the Iris opening to a default position and bypassing the “FLREQ”
signal to the “FLGNT” signal. This procedure enables the operation of the
system under Fluoroscopy radiation without using the MPU (PC) unit. When
the MPU logs-on the application software, it will override the Camera and
RC_IO Bypass setting by loading them their normal operating programs and
will enter to normal operation mode. In case of emergency (MPU lockup
during procedure), the operator is required to make the following procedure:
1. Shut down the system main power.
2. Switch off the MPU (PC power switch).
3. Power up the system (without the MPU).

Two dipswitches on the IOB board define 1 of 4 available openings of the Iris.
Two dipswitches (from an array of 8) that are located on the RC_IO, define the
Mirror position and the “ADR_ACTIVE” signal for bypass (refer to
Installation chapter for dip-switches settings for BACKUP FLUORO).

3.6.7 Data flowcharts

The ADR-1000A is a multitasking system.
This means that several operations can be performed simultaneously.
In order to get a better view of the system internal operations, different types of
operations are separately described in the following data flowcharts:
