(2) SITE(S) OF IMPLEMENTATION (Barangay/ Municipality or City / District / Province / Region)

Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City, Cordillera Administrative Region

(3) SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

To suggest a way to reduce traffic which has an impact to the travel time, waste of energy and
speed long the intersection of Magsaysay Avenue, Bokawkan Road, Manuel Roxas Road and La
Trinidad Road to give a comfort transportation to the local residence of the Baguio City and La
Trinidad and also tourist.

(4) REVIEW OF LITERATURE (not to exceed three pages)

1. Traffic Congestion and Possible Solutions – A Case Study of Asansol
 The aim of the paper is to provide a strategic vision, conceptual framework, logical
sense and guidance on some practical idea to manage congestion in such way as to
reduce its overall impact on individual and society.
 Data has been collected through survey method-counting the vehicles movements.
 Listed question have been asked randomly to pedestrian, bus drivers, vehicle owners
and retailers.
2. Assessment of Traffic Delay Problems and Characteristics at Urban Road Intersection: A
Case Study of Ilorin, Nigeria.
 Identification of the characteristics of the intersections that predispose them to delay
problem and the spatial pattern of traffic delay at the road intersection.
 A reconnaissance survey of the area was carried out.
3. Feasibility Study and Rapid Construction of Flyover at Sahakari Intersection Himatnagar
 On this intersection no. of accidents occurs due to high speed vehicles and heavy
traffic flow in both direction, traffic delay, risk of pedestrian life, lack of proper facility
like symbols, signals, and markings are major problem in this intersection.
 To study the present situation of the traffic at the intersection
 To predict the number of vehicles for the next 10 years
 To suggest the flyover, their dimension, construction aspect, and good aesthetic view
of the flyover.
 To minimize traffic delay during the construction of the fly over.
4. Distributed Dynamic Lane Reversal and Rerouting For Traffic Delay Reduction
Traffic congestion is a major source of traffic delays but it can be mitigated by smarter
traffic system. With the use of new information technology, we can take advantage to
substantially reduce over all traffic delays. In this study, they investigate the implementation
and benefits of lane reversal and traffic rerouting distributed algorithms that can improve traffic
flow.
Objective of the Study
• To characterize the evolution of vehicle density in a road network and the e ffect of
both lane reversal and rerouting on these dynamics.
• To minimizing total vehicle time spent on the road, and propose two algorithms.
• To provide a fundamental understanding of the system dynamics.
5. Performance-Based Intersection Layout Under a Flyover for Heterogeneous Traffic
 At an intersection, flyover is one of the mitigating methods to reduce traffic flow. How
ever the space underneath a flyover is not usually designed to facilitate simultaneous
right-turning vehicular movements. In developed countries they use a diamond
interchange, single point urban interchange, etc. How ever in this study area this
alternative is not feasible because it is constructed in an urban set-up with limited
right-of-way.

(5) OBJECTIVES (one general objective and at least four specific objectives)
To yield an attainable solution and practical concepts in mitigating traffic congestion to lessen
community impacts.
Specific Objectives:
1. Transportation Infrastructure
a. Loading and Unloading Areas
b. Road Widening
c. Pedestrian Lanes
d. Further Improvement of the Existing Flyover
2. Survey of the present traffic situation on the study area
3. Collection of data of possible number of vehicles traversing with in the area
4. Prediction of increase of volume that may traverse the study.

(5) METHODOLOGY
 Reconnaissance Survey
This survey includes the study of the area (topographic features), interaction with the local
residence, experts and study previous investigation which is related to the proposed project study.
a. Level of Service is one way to analyze roadways by categorizing the traffic flow within a certain
area and assign the quality levels based on the measured parameter like speed, density and volume.
Traffic Volume is the number of vehicles that traversing the road per unit of time.
Traffic density – number of vehicles occupying a given length on the highway in traffic lane.
b. Traffic Signals and Flyover
c. n/a
d. n/a
e. Rerouting and expansion
 Traffic Count Survey
 Manual Counting of vehicles traversing the roads. (Peak hours – 6:00 – 9:00 in the morning
and 4:00 to 7:00 in the afternoon)
 Collecting of data through the locals using Survey Sheet

(6)EXPECTED OUTPUTS
1. Identification of the cause of traffic congestion with in the area
2. Possible solutions in mitigating traffic congestion with in the study area
3. Predict of increase in number of vehicles
4. Evaluation of existing traffic flow and transportation infrastructure with in the area

(7) SCOPE LIMITATIONS & DELIMITATION (three paragraphs discussing each)

SCOPE:
The scope only covers the traffic congestion with in the study area which is along Magsaysay
avenue flyover considering the volume of vehicles from the following tributaries:
a. Magsaysay Avenue
b. Camdas Road
c. Manuel Roxas Road
d. Adarna Street
e. Bokowkan Road
Limitation:
Collection of data on the study area shall be during peak or rush hours only. And the method of
counting vehicles is manual standing on the strateging different intersections or locations.
Delimination:
This study is limited to causes of traffic congestion with in the study area, prediction of increase of
volume of vehicles with in 20 years, suggestion and practical solution to lessen community impacts.
Structural Analysis and cost of construction for expansions to address the flow of traffic are not
included.
