2. Equipment used:

2.1. ASE data acquisition system.

All instruments were calibrated.

2.4 Specially constmcted pendulum impact test apparatus.

3. Test procedure: The frontal protection bars impact test was carried out to simulate
crumpling ofthe bars in the Full Frontal Baffier TestADR69.
The test method is described in AAAA Draft Standard - Frontal
Protection Bars. The maximum allowable crumpling deceleration
for a frontal protection bar is 3.5"g" for passenger vehicles and
12"9" for 4WD vehicles. Wher€ "g" is 9.81m/s**2.

The frontal protection bar was mounted onto the simulated

PX Ranger 201 I + chassis and then impacted with a steel
plate, padded with a panel ofpl).wood mass 2068kg.

The impact speed is l6km/h.

The maximum recorded deceleration during bending ofthe bar was 1.14,'g,,/l 806kg/2068kg=
1.31"g". The bar was visibly defomed after the impact and the deformation was conc€ntrated on
the steelmounting brackets and the stainless steeltube.

5. CONCLUSIONS

As the exact SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) airbag triggering algorithm was not available
for this particular vehicle, it is reasonable to assume that this vehicle's airbag triggering system has
one ofthe known sensing devices. There are no known sensing systems that will activate the SRS
airbag below 12g (given in the report) over a period exceeding two (2) milliseconds.

Actual recorded VFPS crumpling rate for Ford PX Rang€r 201 l+ was l.3l "g".

The tested VFPS has maximum crumpling rate below 12 "g" as a maximum permissible value and
therefore is UNLIKELY to have DETRIMENTAL effect on normal operation ofthe SRS airbag
system in a full frontal collision!
