Narrative Text

Narrative text adalah teks yang menceritakan tentang sesuatu hal yang bersifat fiktif
dan hanya berupa karangan dari si penulis (writer) saja.
Tujuan narrative text to enetertain /menghibur, mendidik, memberitahu,
menyampaikan pengalaman pengarang atau sebagai media mengembangkan imajinasi
pembaca.
Contoh narrative text seperti cerita rakyat, dongeng ataupun fabel yang melagenda dari
seluruh belahan dunia, walaupun narrative text umumnya imajinatif, namun beberapa narrative
text juga ada yang faktual.
Orientation
Orientation merupakan paragraf pembuka teks yang mengenalkan siapa tokoh yang
terlibat dalam kejadian (who) serta latar waktu (when) dan tempat yang melatarbelakangi
kejadian (where). Orientation ini terletak di paragraf pertama narrative text. Jadi jangan lupa
dengan who, when, dan where dalam orientation pada narrative text, ya!

Complication
Struktur selanjutnya yaitu complication. Complication terletak setelah orientation
selesai. Complication terdiri dari paragraf yang menjelaskan awal masalah. Awal masalah ini
juga mengawali rentetan plot (alur cerita) yang kemudian akan berlanjut pada konflik, klimaks,
dan anti klimaks cerita. Umumnya complication berisi interaksi antarpelaku peristiwa.
Interaksi ini yang menimbulkan sebuah konflik atau pertentangan. Ada 3 jenis konflik yang
mungkin terjadi di complication, yaitu natural conflict, social conflict, dan psychological
conflict. Sesuai dengan namanya, natural conflict adalah permasalahan antara pelaku dan alam,
social conflict adalah permasalahan antar pelaku, sedangkan psychological conflict adalah
permasalahan pelaku dengan dirinya sendiri.

Resolution
Resolution adalah paragraf yang menjadi akhir cerita. Dalam bagian ini, terjadi
penyelesaian yang membuat jalan cerita berakhir. Setiap permasalahan yang muncul harus ada
penyelesaiannya, bisa ditutup dengan akhir yang menyenangkan (happy ending) atau berakhir
tragis atau menyedihkan (sad ending).

Reorientation
Reorientation merupakan kalimat penutup yang menceritakan kondisi terakhir sang
tokoh dalam cerita atau pesan moral cerita.

Unsur kebahasaan.

Pada umumnya, narrative text memiliki unsur kebahasaan sebagai berikut:


Noun : pada umumnya kata benda (noun) digunakan sebagai kata ganti orang hewan,
atau benda dalam cerita, misalnya stepmother, the dwarfs, carriage, dan lain-lain.
Past tense : narrative text menggunakan kata kerja bentuk lampau (verb 2), misalnya went,
ate, met, dan lain-lain.
Time connective : merupakan kata penghubung waktu untuk mengurutkan kejadian,
misalnya after, before, after that, dan lain sebagainya.
Action verbs : kata kerja yang menunjukan peristiwa atau kegiatan, misalnya stayed, climbed,
wrote, dan lain-lain.
Saying and thinking verb : kata kerja yang menunjukan pelaporan atau ujaran, misalnya said,
told, thought, dan lain sebagainya.
The Monkeys and The Cap Seller
Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was very tired and needed to rest.
Then, he stopped and spread a cloth under a tree.
He placed his bag full of caps near him and lay down with his cap on his head. The cap
seller had a sound sleep for one hour.
When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. He was startled when he
found all his caps were not there.
When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the
branches of a tree, each of the monkeys is wearing a cap of on its head. They had evidently
done it to imitate him. He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the
monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made faces of him. When he begun to make gesture, the
monkeys also imitated him. At last, he found a clever idea. ” Monkeys are a great imitator,” he
thought. So he took off his own cap and threw it down on the ground.
And as he had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps and threw the caps down on
the ground. Quickly, he stood up and collected the caps, put them back into his bag and went
away.

BANDUNG BONDOWOSO
Once upon a time, there was a powerful prince named Bandung Bondowoso. In a war,
Bandung Bondowoso killed Prabu Baka. Then, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love with Prabu
Baka’s daughter named Roro Jonggrang.
Bondowoso wanted to marry this beautiful princess. However, princess hated him
because he had killed her father. Roro Jonggrang was thinking of a way to refuse Bodowoso’s
marriage proposal. Finally, she decided to marry Bandung Bondowoso if he could build a
thousand temples before dawn.
Being helped by genies, Bondowoso built many temples very fast. Roro Jonggrang
wanted to fail him. She asked all women in her village to hit rice so rooster crowed signing that
morning was coming. All genies left their project until 999 temples. They thought morning
came afterward.
Finally, Bondowoso knew that Roro Jonggrang tricked him. He got very angry so he
cursed Roro Jonggrang into a rock statue “Arca”. Roro Jonggrang statue is inside Candi
Prambanan to complete the project of a thousand temples.

Once upon a time, there was a local ruler named King Sulahkromo thing. Prime
Minister King has named Raden Sidopekso. Prime Minister 's wife has named Sri Tanjung.
She is so beautiful and sweet that the king wanted her to be his wife. One day, the King sent
the Prime Minister for long missions. While the Prime Minister went, the King tried to get Sri
Tanjung. But the king failed.
He was very angry and upset. So, when Sidopekso back, the King told him that his wife
was unfaithful to him. Prime Minister is very angry with his wife. Sri Tanjung said that was
not true. However, Sidopekso said that he would kill her. She took him to the river bank.
Before he killed him and threw him into the river, he said that he will be proven
innocent, Once Sidopekso kill him, he threw his body into the river dirty. River soon became
clean and start spreading the wonderful aroma and very fragrant. Sidopekso said, "... Banyu
Wangi... Banyuwangi ". It means ' fragrant water '. Banyuwangi proof of love born of noble
and sacred. That's the origin of the town of Banyuwangi.
Fox and A Cat
One day a cat and a fox were having a conversation. The fox, who was a conceited
creature, boasted how clever she was. 'Why, I know at least a hundred tricks to get away from
our mutual enemies, the dogs,' she said.
'I know only one trick to get away from dogs,' said the cat. 'You should teach me some
of yours!' 'Well, maybe some day, when I have the time, I may teach you a few of the simpler
ones,' replied the fox airily.
Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The barking grew
louder and louder - the dogs were coming in their direction! At once the cat ran to the nearest
tree and climbed into its branches, well out of reach of any dog. 'This is the trick I told you
about, the only one I know,' said the cat. 'Which one of your hundred tricks are you going to
use?'
The fox sat silently under the tree, wondering which trick she should use. Before she
could make up her mind, the dogs arrived. They fell upon the fox and tore her to pieces.
