1 CTL blockade with Watch-Dog Time-out when DP pool is created

Phenomena 1. When DP pool is created as 28D+2P, it takes 10sec or more for processing, and CTL is
blockaded with "Watch-Dog Time-out". When the firmware version is V7.0 to V7.2/F,
2. The recovery operation for (1) fails and the DP pool can't be created. When the firmware
version is V7.2/G to V8.5/B,
3. The DP pool creation fails by (1) and the DP pool that can't be deleted
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP is enabled
2. Creation, the capacity addition or the deletion of a DP pool is executed.
3. The DPRG capacity of (2) is 16TB or more.
(Especially, when the user port and the maintenance port are connected in a local
environment, Watch-dog time-out is generated easily)
Note: The operation time is about 16TB/9sec and 6TB/3sec in AMS2500 (DF800H),
6TB/2sec and 16TB/5sec in AMS2300/2100.
Cause 1. When 16TB (8D+2P with 2TB HDD the DP pool is composed, the expected time is
about 5sec in AMS2500 or about 9sec in AMS2300/2100.)
2. If the CTL blockade occurs during a DP pool creation, the creation fails.
3. Then the DP Pool information is inconsistent and it is impossible to delete the DP pool.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later
Category HDP

2 During LU format subsystem down after power failure or CTL block

Phenomena The subsystem down generates by "Watch-dog time-out", when PS/on with volatilizing or
CTL blockage are occurred while DP-vol format is executed.
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. The page allocated with total about 150TB or more in several DP-VOL.
2. Format operation to several DP-VOL
3. When CTL blockade or power failure occurred, failure recovery is executed.
Cause Process "Recount of page or allocated chunk" takes longer time than expected.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later
Category HDP

Problem ID V85-0062

3 Micro program error [HDP] on the both CTL

Phenomena After the operation of shrinking DP-VOL Capacity, Micro program error [HDP] occurs on
each CTL. As a result, the subsystem down occurs.
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP is enabled
2. Shrinking the capacity of DP-VOL
3. Is not a boundary of 4GB in LU size after shrinking operation the DP-VOL capacity.
4. After Shrinking DP-VOL Capacity, the page state in boundary 4GB is (a) and (b).
(a) Both the allocated page and the unallocated page are existed.
(b) After all allocated pages are reduced beyond the limits of DP-VOL size.
Cause An illegal state in an internal table is generated, then the subsystem down occurs
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later
Category HDP
Changed Part MICRO-Disk

4 Subsystem down during HDP recovery process

Phenomena Subsystem down caused by CHK1, CTL blockage, and power failure during recovery
Operation. When HDD recovery, online verify, DP pool format or LU format is executed.
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP is enabled
2. HDD recovery at DP pool or online verify or DP pool format or LU format is executed.
3. When the failure (CHK1, the CTL blockage, and power failure(nonvolatile)) recovery is
executed, the failure occurred.
4. When the HDD recovery in DP pool , the occurrence condition is (2) and (3). Because it
retries automatically at the HDD recovery in the DP pool).
Cause When failure(the CTL blockage and power failure) occurs with the chunk lock status and
transition of chunk status, there is timing that the chunk state becomes illegal, and logical
error is detected with both CTL and the system down occurs.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later
Category HDP

5 System down with CHK1/CTL blockage and DP pool operation

Phenomena There is a possibility that the following events occur when CHK1 or the CTL blockage is
generated while updating DP pool information in the recovery, the deletion, and the RG
blockade of the DP pool in the HDP configure.
1. Impossible to save HDP information and data corruption occurred with volatilizing.
2. The pool optimization is executed, and there is a possibility that the CTL blockage by the
unjustified memory access. In this case, both CTL are blockaded.
3. The pool optimization is executed, and its progress does not advance.
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP is enabled
2. When CHK1 or the CTL blockage is generated while updating DP pool information in
the recovery, the deletion, and the RG blockade of the DP pool in the HDP configure.
Cause When a failure recovery process Because the recovery processing didn't operate by the gap
of the memory update timing of the DP pool processing, the information on cache memory
and work memory become inconsistent.

6 CTL blockage is occurred.

Phenomena "CTL communication send time-out" is generated if another core issues the communication
when DP-Vol operation is executed, and the CTL blockage is occurred.
(When the pages are allocated with capacity of 3TB or more at Shrinking the DP-VOL
Capacity. When the pages are reduced with capacity of 3TB or more at DP-VOL deletion
and format. )
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. When the DP-Vol operation(DP-Vol delete, format and Shrinking capacity) is executed
for the large DP-vol.
(When the pages are allocated with capacity of 3TB or more at Shrinking the DP-VOL
Capacity. When the pages are reduced with capacity of 3TB or more at DP-VOL deletion
and format. )
2. When processing at constant period communicates between another core.
Cause DP-Vol operation with interrupt prohibited, and there is the case which it takes 3sec or more
to release many pages. Because the communication interrupt cannot pick up by 3sec or
more. Though the mask of interrupt is done and becomes "CTL communication send time-
out" in the other core on the communication.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/A or later

7 TC/TCE CTG information incorrectly cleared

Phenomena CLI command "aureplicationmon -evwait" to TC/TCE pair or pair operations using
Groupname gets error after SI/SS pair is deleted from SNM2.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. There are SI or SS pairs in a CTG.
2. There are TC or TCE pairs in a CTG.
3. Delete all pairs of the SI or SS belonging to a CTG.
4. CTG# of SI or SS pairs which deleted in (3), is smaller than CTG# of TC or TCE pairs.
Cause CTG information (Groupname etc.) of TC/TCE incorrectly cleared if deleting SI/SS pairs.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, All version
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later
Category Common

8 Reused capacity in data area of Data Provisioning doesn't increase

Phenomena Reused capacity of data area about Data Provisioning doesn't increase after executing LU
shrink because the chunk that may be released doesn't release.
(In the worst case, reused operation starts after 24 hours from formatting completion.)
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP environment
2. When formatting of chunk is executed for pool creation/ pool recovery/ DP-VOL
deletion/ DP-VOL formatting/ DP-VOL shrink.
3. A chunk that can be reused because DP-VOL shrink or pool optimization is executed.
Cause When firmware searches the chunks that can be reused, firmware checks only the chunks
that are formatted fully. So, the data area that may be reused doesn't be reused because
firmware doesn't search the next of the chunk under formatting if there is a chunk under
formatting,

9 CTL blockade due to Micro program Error [PRO]

Phenomena If the subsystem that mixed HDP support firmware and the non-support firmware between
the CTL is turned off, the message "Micro program error[PRO]" is displayed, and then the
CTL is blockaded. However the power-off is completed normally, and also the firmware
update will be completed when the subsystem will start up next.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. DM-LU is created.
2. Snapshot is enabled,
or TCE is enabled,
or SI pair that the status is "COPY" or "PSUS" have been created,
or TC pair that the status is "COPY", "PSUS" or "PSUE" have been created,
3. A CTL has V6.5 or earlier firmware, and the other one has V7.0 and later firmware.
4. The firmware of the CTL associated to the DM-LU is V7.0 or later.
5. Turn off the subsystem.
Cause Because the HDP support CTL issue a communication to the non-support CTL as an
extension of saving data from cache to DM-LU on the drive during firmware is different
between controllers, the communication fails and then the CTL is blockaded.

10 Capacity value assigned to HDP pool is incorrect.

Phenomena If failure (controller blockade of unexpected power off) occurs in the timing of assignment
for new page, assigned capacity of chunks is incorrect.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP environment
2. Controller blockade or unexpected power off occurs
Cause When firmware checks the capacity of chunks again in the recovery process from
inconsistency status, there is a bug about subtraction in the checking process.
Affected Products/Version DF800H/M/S, V7.0/A(0870/A) or later
Fixed Product/Version Version: 0885/C or later

11 The destage of the management information of DP pool failed

Phenomena Subsystem down with "The destage of the management information
of DP pool failed" during shut-down.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. CoW Snapshot, TCE or HDP is enabled
2. PIN data exist.
3. Shut down or reboot the subsystem
Cause Saving the management information (for Cow SS/TCE/HDP) from the cache memory to
HDD does not work well when PIN data exist.

12 Unable to resolve Depletion alert status of HDP pool
Phenomena HDP caution status that must be resolved cannot resolved actually if failure occurs at the
timing of cancellation about caution status because of decreasing used capacity after that
the HDP status changes initial caution/ drained caution/ drained status when the capacity of
HDP pool usage is over the threshold.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP environment
2. HDP pool is created and is used until the HDP status changes to initial caution/ drained
caution/ drained status.
3. Capacity of HDP pool usage decreases under threshold of caution (i.e. Depletion alert).
4. Failure or sequential shutdown occurs at the timing of cancellation about caution status
(initial caution/ drained caution/ drained status). The failure is CHK1, controller blockade,
unexpected power off/cache data non-volatilization.
Cause If failure occurs at the timing between the clear of status notification flag and translation of
pool status, pool status doesn't change from initial caution/ drained caution/ drained status
to another status although status notification flag has already cancelled.

13 CTL blockade when changing a topology of FC interface

Phenomena CTL blockade occurs by the failure of DCTL when changing a topology of FC interface.
The Message "Host transfer DMA error was detected(CTL-X,DMA-XX)" is issued.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. 8Gbps FC(Fibre Channel) interface board
2. Processing Read I/O (by cross-call in the array)
3. The DMA error on the FC port of (2)
Cause Reset to the FC protocol chip interface (after the DMA error for the recovery from the
error) is not executed eventually by the timing.

OFF/ON
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. HDP is enabled
2. Create a DP pool or growing the capacity of a DP pool.
Cause If a failure occurs during the update process of Chunks on creating/growing a pool, the
process ends even though some Chunks are not updated, eventually.

16 Code upgrade fails if Session-timeout length is disabled

Phenomena Online firmware upgrading fails with the following message. Even if you retry in
accordance with the message, firmware update fails again."DMEA00200E: Could not finish
replacing the firmware. Confirm the subsystem status and the LAN environment, and then
try again only the updating.
Please try it again at least three times until complete it normally.
If you cannot totally complete it normally, power OFF and then power ON the subsystem."
Severity Low
Conditions of Occurrence The problem occurs when all following conditions are met.
1. Account Authentication is enabled.
2. Session-timeout length for Account Authentication is disabled.
3. Upgrading the firmware as online firmware update.
Cause When Session-timeout length for Account Authentication is disabled, some sessions are
terminated in the reboot-process for updating firmware. As a result, session-timeout occurs
on HSNM2, and firmware update fails.

17 Wrong detection of Session-timeout of Account Authentication

Phenomena Unable to do HSNM2 operation to DF800H where Account Authentication is enabled as the
session-timeout occur soon after the log-in. DMEG100013: Current session has timed out.
Please login again.
Severity Low
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. DF800H
2. Account Authentication P.P. is enabled.
3. Login to the DF800H with HSNM2.
Cause In the dual-core CPU on the DF800H CTL, the firmware of the core-X watches the
HSNM2 session. Though the firmware of the core-Y should not watch the session that
watches the session practically and detects the time-out by the difference of the timers of
the cores.

18 Access lost to the LU, which executed TC/TCE pair operation
Phenomena The following phenomenon may occur at MCU when TC/TCE pair operation has been
executed during remote path blockade.
1. Access lost to the LU may occur, which executes pair operation command.
2. Pair operations may fail to the TC/TCE pair by SNM2.
3. Pair operations may fail to the TC/TCE pair by RAID Manager.
4. Reverse operation commands may fail to the TC/TCE pair from RCU.
5. Shutdown operation may not complete.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. TC or TCE is enabling.
2. A remote path is blockaded.
3. TC/TCE pair operation is performed to the CTL, which has the blockaded remote path,
by SNM2 or RAID Manager.
Cause The bug was found in the path alternation operation when TC/TCE pair operation command
has been executed during remote path blockade. The micro-program bug may cause the
alternation fail to the other CTL, and then the pair operation commands may be left and
SNM2 or RAID Manager detects a time-out error. An access lost to the LU, which the pair
operation have been executed, occurs because host I/Os cannot be performed caused by the
stay of the pair operation command. And also, operations of SNM2 and/or RAID Manager
for all LU fail. Host accesses to the other LU are possible.

19 TC/TCE pair status may change improperly.

Phenomena When a CTL failure occurs and subsequently the CTL is recovered, TC/TCE pair status
may change improperly.
As a result,
1. The pair status may change improperly to PSUE
2. The pair status may change improperly to PAIR
3. The local subsystem down may occur.
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. TC/TCE is enabling.
2. A CTL failure occurs while TC/TCE pairs are in COPY status or TCE pairs are in PAIR
status.
3. The CTL failure is recovered by replacing the CTL.
4. On CCI or SNM2, a TC/TCE pair operation command is issued to LU on the CTL which
has been recovered from being blockaded
Cause CTL switching operation fails when a TC/TCE pair operation command is executed with
the CTL recovered. The CTL switching operation fails due to a firmware bug and the status
of TC/TCE pairs in COPY or of TCE pairs in PAIR may change improperly.(How the pair
status changes depends on the pair status when replacing the CTL. The subsystem down
may occur in cases that the pair status is PSUS.)

20 Subsystem down when TCE pair is performed with a path failure.
Phenomena TCE pair status changes improperly after TCE pair operation is performed with a path
failure. As a result, the local subsystem down may occur due to "micro program error
[RVM]".
Severity High
Conditions of Occurrence The problem may occur when all following conditions are met.
1. TCE is enabling.
2. A remote path is blockaded.
3. TCE pair operation is performed to the CTL, which has the blockaded remote path, by
SNM2 or RAID Manager.
Cause The bug was found in the path alternation operation when TCE pair operation command has
been executed during remote path blockade.
The micro-program bug may cause the alternation fail to the other CTL, the TCE pair status
may remain improperly.
