Note on Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as “the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit
to that person”2. In other words, plagiarism is about taking another person’s words or ideas
and trying to pass them off as one’s own. Plagiarism also includes copy-pasting work from
one’s earlier submission or published article into a new submission or article, without
referencing the previous submission. IIM Calcutta has a strict policy on plagiarism3. Please be
aware that such practices might have grave consequences by IIM Calcutta’s policies. Ober,
Simon, & Elson (2013) have outlined five simple steps to avoid plagiarism. Please go through
the same to avoid intended or unintended plagiarism.
