Our topic for today is flowering plants or what we
call angiosperm.

Look at the chart.

Angiosperm is classified into 2; the monocot and

dicot.

In algebra mono means one while dicot is two.

Example di-atom in science.

Let us differentiate the characteristics of monocot

and dicot.

Plant part Monocot Dicot

Seed

Leaf

Stem

Flower

Let’s have some examples.

1. How many cotyledons does the monocot? In monocot we have one cotyledon while in dicot has two.
What about the dicot?
2. In terms of leaf venation how does the Leafs vein are parallel
monocot looks like?
What about the dicot? Their leaf veins are branched or netted.
3. In terms of cross-section of stem, how does Have a vascular bundles (xylem and phloem) scattered
the monocot look like? throughout the stem.

4. In terms of flower plan, how does do the two

differ from each other? Floral parts are in 4’s and 5’or multiple of 4 and 5 of dicot
while in monocot theb floral part are in 3’s or multiple of 3.

Very Good! You did great!

In fact monocot have one cotyledon, has a

netted leaf, has 2 part-stem, and there is pitch,
