Detailed Lesson Plan

I-OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the parts of the Digestive System
2. Describe the functions of each part
3. Explain the digestion process
4. Draw/sketch the digestive system
5. Establish cooperation and unity in group work

II-SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Human Digestive System

Reference: Science and Technology pp. 119-121

Biology Textbook pp.99-100

Materials: http://www.buzzle.com/organs-of-the-digestive-system.html
Anatomy of the Human Digestive System, Charts, Scotch tape, Reading
Materials, pentel pens and biscuits.

Science Concept: Digestion is the process of breaking down of food into smaller pieces so that it
can easily dissolved and absorbed for the use of the Human body.

III- PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

Good morning class. Good morning Ms. Laurente

Before we start our discussion, let’s have
first a prayer. You lead the prayer _____. (praying)

Who is absent today? None ma’am.

I.REVIEW

What was our topic last meeting? It’s all about the ecosystem

What are the two kinds of ecosystem? The two kinds of ecosystem are the natural and
man-made ecosystem.

Who can give example of natural ecosystem?

_____________? The examples of natural ecosystem are the
forest, ponds, rivers and swamps.

Very good________ . How about man-made

Ecosystem? Who can give example? The examples of man-made ecosystem are the
aquarium, garden, rice fields, zoo and backyard.

Thank you ______. Are there any questions

For clarification about the topic last meeting? None ma’am.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

2.DRILL

I have here a pack of biscuits. I’ll give you one

By one and then you eat that. Observe what will
Happen to the biscuits.
3. MOTIVATION

Have you ever wonder what happened to

the food you eat? Yes ma’am
where do you think the food went? The food went to the stomach.
Definitely, the food you ate will go to
your stomach.

B.PRESENTATION

This morning, I will discuss with you the

Human Digestive System, its parts and functions
but first let me define you some terms.

C.UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES

1. Digestion- is the process of breaking down of food into smaller pieces so that it can be easily
dissolved and absorbed for the use of the Human body.
2. Amylase- the enzymes of saliva that breaks down starch into maltose.
3. Peristalsis-a wave muscles contractions that pushes the food down the tube.
4. Polypeptides- are chains of amino acids.

D. ACTIVITY

1. GROUP WORK

Now, you group yourself into 3. You count 1-3. (The students are counting 1-3)
All group 1, you sit in front. All group 2 at the
center and group 3 at the back.
Here are printed materials for you to read that
will provide information regarding your tasks.
I’ll give you five (5) minutes to read that and
three(3) minutes to do your task.
In group 1, you identify the parts of the digestive
system. In group 2, describe the function of each part.
For group 3, you complete the paragraph using the
words given to the group. After making your work,
you choose one in your group to report.
The first group that will finish will be added 10 points.
Is that clear? Yes ma’am.

Okay you start now.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

2.REPORTING

Time is up! You post your work on the Board. Yes ma’am.
Shall we start the reporting? (Reporting)
Let’s start with group 1.
Give hands to group 1.
Next group, please. (Reporting)
Very good. Give them a military clap.

Group 3, report now your work. (Reporting)

You give 3 heart claps for group 3.
Do you have questions for clarification
regarding the reports? None ma’am.

E. ANALYSIS

Why should the food be digested The food should be digested because
we can get nutrients from the food we ate that
can be used by the body.
Very good.
From your activity, what have you learned? I learn that digestion starts in the mouth and
ends in the anus.
Excellent. But what do you mean by
Digestion, anyway? Digestion is the breaking down of food into
pieces for body use.
F. ABSTRACTION

Digestion starts in the mouth. While the food

is still in the mouth, the teeth cut and grind
the food and the salivary lands produces saliva
containing enzymes known as amylase which
starts the digestive process. Food moves through
the esophagus by peristalsis, a wave of muscle
contractions that pushes the food down the tube.
In the stomach, chemical digestion starts.
Enzymes In gastric juices secreted by the stomach
acts on protein,Changing them to polypeptides.
The food change then into absorbableand digestible
form.
Near the small intestine are the liver and the pancreas.
The liver makes the bile. The pancreas is located near
The stomach which produces pancreatic juice which
Digest proteins.
The partly digested food then goes to the small
intestines and absorbed by the blood and carried to the
other parts of the body.
Some of the undigested food goes to the large
intestines.Water is taken out and the solid waste leaves
the body through the large intestines and into the rectum
and into the anus. The water passes out the body as urine.

G. APPLICATION

How are you going to take care of your digestive

System? By eating clean and well-cooked
Food and by chewing it well so that
will be easier for the organs to digest.
Very good.

IV- EVALUATION

Now, you get one half sheet of paper.

You explain the digestion process

V- ASSIGNMENT

For youe assignment, you draw the digestive

System in a short bond paper And label it.
