COURSE DYNAMIC ANALYSIS WITH CODE-ASTER

Date: Thursday 30 Nov to Friday 01 December 2017

Who should attend this Course ?

The course is intended for engineers concerned with dynamic simulations. You should already be
experienced with Code-Aster, doing at least linear static analysis, using several element and load
types and using Salome as Pre- and Postprocessor. Experience with a programming language will
grade up the value of this course for you (even if we will not program in this course), because Code-
Aster being open source can be extended to your special needs and applications.

Which advantages can your company expect from Code-Aster?

– You will Code-Aster employ for many dynamic analysis tasks. The course will cover: modal
analysis, harmonic and transient analysis, reduced models, modeling of damping, force- and
base-excitation
– Saving of licence fees for commerical codes
– Code-Aster is easily interfacable with other Codes (for example Pre- and Postprocessors) by
scripting with Python, you are not restricted to any limits imposed by a software company
– The full power of the Python language is available in any Code-Aster run
– Code-Aster can be extended to your special needs and applications by modifying and/or
extending the code

Content of the Course

Theoretical Basics
- Dynamic equations of motion
- Concepts of Damping:
- viscous damping (damping elements, Rayleigh-damping, modal damping)
- structural (=stiffness-proportional) damping (global or specified per region)
- one-degree-of-freedom-system
- multi-degree-of-freedom-system
- Homogenous solution
- Real modes
- Complex modes (damped modes)
- Inhomonenous solution
- Response to harmonic loads
- Response to transient loads
- Modal Reduction
Exercises with Code-Aster
- Real eigenmodes Analysis
- Complex eigenmodes Analysis
- Defining Harmonic and Transient Loads
- Creating modal reduced system matrices
- Discrete point- and line-elements for mass, damping, stiffness
- Harmonic Analysis (Direct or modal reduced)
- Transient Analysis (Direct or modal reduced)
- Modeling Damping (viscous, stiffness-proportional, modal damping . . )

The workshops consists half and half of lessons and guided exercises.

Duration: 2 Days
Language: English (german and italian if needed)
Lecturer: Dr.-Ing. Johannes Ackva

Installation Prerequistes

Each participant has to bring his own Computer with Salome-Meca installed on a Linux OS. After
registration to the course we will inform you which version should be installed (generally the most
recent). Be aware that Salome-Meca requires a 64 bit OS.

Please test your installation of SalomeMeca, with any example found on the forum (www.code-
aster.org) to be shure that Salome and Code-Aster both work OK. Salome can have graphic problems
with non-NVIDIA graphic boards. During the seminar, there will be only few time to treat installation
problems. If you are unexperienced with installation tasks, ask your administrator or ask for help in the
forums at www.caelinux.com or www.code-aster.org, before (!) the seminar.

Fee 1250 € + 19% VAT (Mwst.)

VAT has not to be payed by european-nongerman participants who provide us their european VAT-ID.

Fee includes attendance to the seminar, 1 copy of amply commented command- and meshfiles
(*.comm, *.med) covering exercises on seminar topics, refreshments (coffee), lunch.

Maximal number of participants:

Hotel: The seminar location Evangelisches Bildungszentrum Hesselberg resides on the mountain
Hesselberg in a very lovely and inspiring natural ambient. Since this is an isolated place we
recommend you to book your accomodation there, in particular if you come by train: the seminar
house provides also a shuttle service for its hotel guests from and to the railway station at
Gunzenhausen.
Alternatively you can find accomodations in Gerolfingen (http://www.gerolfingen.de/index.php?
n=Tourismus.Gaststaetten) at a walking distance of 3 km, at the base of the mountain. Nearest small
towns are Wassertrüdingen (7 km), Oettingen (20 km) or the very lovely and well known medieval
Dinkelsbühl (16 km).

The South of Germany is of valuable cultural and touristical interest. Even the closer region of the
Hesselberg is worth of a some post-seminar vacation days: Hiking in some sweet mountains, visiting
in springtime the frankonian sees (www.fraenkischeseen.de), beautyful medioeval small cities
(Eichstätt, Wemding, Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl . .) or the very famous „Romantische Strasse“.
