Foreword
The Committee for Quality Control of High-Rise Building Construction
Projects (CQHP) is continuing the effort to improve the service of the personnel
who are involved in the High-Rise Building Construction Industries.
Following booklets have been printed and distributed by the committee.
() Electrical Installation Guidelines.
(ii) Electrical Installation Design Guides
(iii) General Safety Requirements, Inspection and Testing
(iv) Temporary Electrical Installations and Electrical Installation on
Building Construction Sites
(vy) And Testing of Electrical Wiring Installation comprises of (i)
Testing Instruments, (ii) Measuring Instruments (iii) Additional
Worked Out Examples (the present booklet).
Testing Instruments listed are essentially needed for a Construction Site
and the application and why they are used with the help of worked out examples
are fully explained. Catalogues for the instruments used are also included in this
booklet
Measuring Instruments are mentioned in the second group of instruments
for measurement of Electrical parameters and their relative catalogues are
attached
And the additional worked out examples on the protection of over current,
prospective fault current and selection of protective conductor size according to
IEE Wiring Regulation are supplemented in this booklet.
The publication of this booklet is primarily meant for those who are not
familiar with these instruments. However Electrical Engineers, Technicians,
Designers will find this booklet useful.
The publication is limited and it is meant for education purpose only.

Projects (CQHP)INTRODUCTION
We would like to discuss about how we can get electric shock first before
going to the explanation, application and handling of the test instruments.
Study the following self explanatory figures. They are easily
understandable from it.
1mA = 2mA mA - 10mA

50mA and above
Fig.1: Electric shock
4mA -2mA Barely perceptible, no harmful effects
5mA_ - 10mA Throw off, painful sensation
10mA - 15mA Muscular contraction, can't let go!
20mA - 30mA, Impaired breathing
50mA and above Ventricular fibrillation and death
Hospital, dangerous area, handicapped person — 10mA.
RCCB for shock = 30mA
With high earth leakage equipment -100mA
Fire hazards -500mA
ReD — Residual Current Operated Device,
RCBO.
