What's difference between terminals and gate at the

airport?
Terminal is a building where the airport activities happen. Different offices of airlines, airport
authority and related agencies are in the terminal. The entire airport is controlled from the
terminal building except ATC.

Gates are access or exit points for passengers to board or exit from the aircraft. Gates have
numbers which is reflected in the boarding passes issued to the passengers and accordingly
passengers can access the aircraft through the gates.

_______________

A terminal or terminus is a place wherein means of transportation stop as arrival and departure
points. It can be mid points or end points. A gate is an access point for boarding or deboarding
from a means of transportation.

This is for all forms of transportation including railways, airports, bus stoppages, etc. The
terminus acts as a means of channelling passengers from the entry to the exit at the boarding
gate.

What is the difference between terminals and gates?

An airport terminal is a building at an airport where passengers transfer between ground
transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from aircraft. An
example of a famous airport terminal is Dubai Airport Terminal 3 (which is part of Emirates
Airline) another example is London Heathrow Terminal 4 which hosts a huge amount of
international airlines such as American, Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, etc.. Within the
terminal, passengers purchase tickets, transfer their luggage, and go through security.
However, a gate in an airport is an area of an airport that provides a waiting area for passengers
before boarding their flight. While the exact specifications vary from airport to airport and
country to country, most gates consist of seating, a counter, an aircraft entry or exit doorway,
and a jet bridge.
