Summary Statement
SIPS will be located in Rexburg, Idaho as a dine-in and drive through soda shop. SIPS will be a
place where students and other community members come to hang out, go on dates, or come
through our drive-thru to get an amazing product on their way to where they are going. Started
by Courtney Shields she always dreamed of owning her own business. She has a passion for
making others happy, putting on events, and being her own boss. Courtney loves how soda
shops have risen in popularity over the past few years and is excited to have her own business
in an area of the food industry that she really loves and connects with.
SIPS mission statement is to provide an experience for their customers as they enjoy their high-
quality products. Courtney strongly believes that superior customer service and creating a
positive memory of her business with her customers is key. This is what will keep them coming
back for more and more along with serving high quality products.
Courtney participated in a culinary pathway throughout high school leading her to attend a
nationally accredited culinary school her senior year of high school. Her various passions
including her love for food service lead her to her Bachelor’s Degree in Family Consumer
Science Education at BYU-Idaho. Courtney has taken advanced classes and is prepared to enter
the food business industry for herself and has full confidence in herself.
SIPS is opening its first location in Rexburg Idaho. We plan to reach the market of the college
students, and other community members but will mostly be focusing on the college as our main
target market. Yes there are other soda shops in Rexburg but we believe we can tap the market
by advertising to college students, having them experience SIPS and have a great customer
service and overall experience at our location.
SIPS has big goals and dreams. SIPS hopes to be debt free within the first two years of service.
They also hope to have high traffic of customers and gain new customers each semester. SIPS
has a dream to open more locations in the surrounding areas and maybe even different parts of
the state, and possibly even other states. SIPS firmly believes if you want something in life you
have to go out and make it happen.
Market Analysis: Defining Your Niche
According to World Population Review. Com Rexburg Idaho’s estimated population in 2019 is:
28,337. “The overall median age is 23.3 years, 24.1 years for males, and 22.3 years for females.
For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. The median income for households in Rexburg,
Idaho is $26,341, while the mean household income is $41,913.” (World Population Review)
According to BYU-Idaho the total Winter 2019 enrollment is 19,235 students. (BYU-Idaho) That
means that approximately 68% of Rexburg’s total population is college students.
Based off of this information we know that our age market is around 22-24 years old. We also
know that there are just about the same number of boys and girls and so to market to both of
them equally. Also, Rexburg households don’t earn a ton of money so our products need to be
in the right price point.
We believe that our service would be beneficial to the area because there aren’t a ton of places
for college students to hangout in Rexburg since it is a small town. Students would enjoy
spending time at our SIPS store and make meaningful memories there. Also, our store could
provide employment opportunities to the community. We also cater events which there are a
lot of in Rexburg, graduation parties, community events, weddings, birthdays and so on.
Competitors
Below is a list of our main competitors. We would contact them and ask the following
questions: What volume did you do in business last year? The biggest problem that you face
over the years and how do you fix it? What are your price margins? What are your most
popular items?
Soda Vine, Great Scotts (two locations), Sonic
We will also run a market study targeting college students asking the following questions:
Do you purchase your soda at a local establishment? Where?
How many times a week to you grab a soda?
Do you ever purchase another item at these establishments besides soda? If so what?
What is the most important thing to you in an establishment: interior, customer service, high
quality product, price? variety of products?
How likely would you be to try a new soda establishment?
What would an establishment need to do to have your continued business?

Tips for a New Caterer
(Vivaldo, How to start a home-based catering business)
Marketing Plan
Advertising and spreading the word
- Social media adds: We will run online ads for our products, promotions and catering
opportunities. Ads will be running through Facebook and Instagram
- Other adds: Run adds online through the local newspaper and in the newspaper. Maybe
see if we can have adds on local websites
- We plan to get involved with our community. We want to be a part of street fairs,
farmers markets and other events.
- We could do fundraisers for local schools or cater their events
- Contact other business owners and see if we could do events are their businesses or
cater their events for a good deal when we are starting out.
Long Term
-Continue spreading the word and doing community events
-Depending on research and if the target market shows interest incorporating a delivery service
of our products
-Build off of what we have done that has worked good in the past
-After about 3 years it might be time to look at almost “rebranding” not our name but maybe
how we market. Where is a lot of marketing taking place? Is there a newest and greatest app to
market on? Only time will tell.
Pricing and Services
-We offer great customer service
-Offer a great environment and atmosphere
-Competitive prices and services
-We cater your events
Promotions
-These will all depend once we get up and running on what we feel that we need to do and
what products sell best and what don’t and only time will tell
-Happy hour (half price drinks) -Punch cards: buy 10 sodas get one free

Projections for the Future
Rexburg has had growth over the last 10 years and will continue to grow. In 2009 the
population of Rexburg was 24,809 according to the Census Bureau. And now the population is
28,337. Even though this doesn’t seem like too many new people it certainly is for Rexburg.
Rexburg is going to continue to grow as well as BYU-Idaho. As BYU-Idaho continues to grow it
will bring more college students to town and allow our business to receive new customers and
grow.
We hope that our Rexburg location will rise in popularity and be able to pay for itself in two
years. After that we want to look at using our extra profits to expand to other surrounding
areas if there is a demand for us. We hope to bring joy to the Rexburg community and provide a
high-quality service at a great price. We are also excited to expand our menu of high-quality
and yummy products. We do anticipate that in the beginning it will be tough to brand
ourselves and make ourselves known to the community. We have put in place a good
management plan and advertisement plan in order to help us accomplish this task. No one can
project the future, especially economically but this is where we would like to see the growth of
our business to go. We can’t wait to see where our business takes us and for all of the
wonderful opportunities that come from this adventure.
