Social Media in Business Lesson Plan

Learning Objective: The students will be able to…
1. Classify the several types of social media.
2. Identify how certain types of social media are used.
3. Understand that social media is a valuable marketing tool for
businesses today.
4. Create and design a social media post.
Learning Activities: The students will be watching the Teacher Tube Video: Social
Media. The video explains how to use social media to promote a
business. The video presents examples of social media networks
businesses should use and explains why businesses should use
certain social media networks. As the students watch the video,
they will fill out the graphic organizer. Then students will create,
design, and present a social media post to promote a product.

Activity 1: Video
The students will watch a video about social media. The video will
help the students understand the different types of social media and
how they are used to benefit businesses to promote their brand.

Activity 2: Graphic Organizer


The students will fill out the questions in a graphic organizer that
pertain to social media. The students will read through each of the
questions before starting the video. The five questions in the
graphic organizer will be filled out during the video.

Activity 3: Class Discussion


After the graphic organizers are completed, the students will be
separated into small groups. The students will utilize their answers
to share in discussion. The students will communicate their
perception of social media and their understanding of how it is
applied in businesses.

Activity 4: Social Media Post


As the students are in discussion, I will assign each group a specific
product and the students will create and design a social media post.
The students will establish what kind of audience they are
promoting to and decide on the type of social media network that
will benefit their product. When the students complete their social
media post, they will share and present them to the class.
Assessment/evaluation: The students will be evaluated on their completion of the graphic
organizer, their involvement in the small group’s discussion, and
their creativity on their social media post design. I will collect each
of the student’s graphic organizer to confirm that students filled
out their graphic organizer and comprehended the information
presented in the video. While students are in their small groups, I
will observe to ensure that each student participates in
conversation. As students work on their social media post, I will
note their involvement and contribution to the assignment. When
students present their social media post to the class, I will assess
the originality of their post.
