Assistance
Program

Throughout the first three years
of their teaching careers, new
College of Education graduates
are provided access to a
number of support mechanism
and professional development
activities.
The Alabama Continuum is an instrument utilized by
Beginning Educator Assistance Program (BEAP) to
guide beginning teachers in reflection, self-assessment,
and goal setting for professional learning and growth.
The Continuum is one component of a comprehensive
program of support for the ongoing development and
remediation of teaching pedagogy. BEAP works in
conjunction with ASU’S Central Alabama Regional
In-service Center and the surrounding school
systems to identify novice teachers that are in need of
assistance. This assistance is provided to individuals on
an as needed basis at no cost.

Overall Objective
To provide support for beginning teachers; to support
content-specific pedagogy that reflects Alabama Quality
Teaching Standards, the Alabama Continuum and
EDUCATEAlabama; to emphasize connections between
effective planning, instruction and student learning; to
emphasize the importance of reflection for professional
growth; to emphasize the use of computer related
technology to enhance student learning; and using data
to drive instruction.

Specific Tasks

ongoing support.

 o facilitate networking, outreach, support and
professional growth activities.

 o maintain a Beginning Educator Assistance
Center of Excellence with quality, current and
adequate resources.
Ongoing Professional
Development Activities
Monthly sessions with BEAP participants to develop
professional development needs to include, but not
limited to, workshops on classroom management,
using data from assessment for instructional purposes,
National Board Certification, EDUCATEAlabama,
working with parents and others. These monthly
professional development activities will utilize
stimulating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint,
physical examples of instructional aides, role-
playing, and several examples of practical concept
implementation. Free to beginning teachers.
