Lesson Plan: Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 - 7th Grade

Standard:

Anchor 4: Analyze, interpret, and select artistic work for presentation.

Anchor 5: Develop and refine artistic work for presentation.

Objectives:

Student will be able to analyze Skygazer Fanfare for key elements (time signature, key
signature, accidentals, road map) before playing.

Students will be able to sing and finger their individual parts in Skygazer Fanfare
confidently and accurately.

Students will be able to sight read Skygazer Fanfare with 75% accuracy on notes and
rhythms.

Students will be able to play m.35 with correct rhythms and articulations.

Known:

How to read music.

How to play in concert Eb key signature.

How to count in a 4/4 time signature.

New:

Piece of music

Materials:

Skygazer Fanfare sheet music

Scale sheet

Book

Procedure:

Warmup: (Music to be passed out during this time)

Play through concert G-Ab scales

Play 125 in book (remind students of off beat rhythm pattern that they will see in
their music).

Turn to music.

Discussion: What do we look for when reading a new piece of music. (Write answers on
board)

Road Map

Tricky rhythms

Discussion: What do we mean by a road map? (Refer back to exact measure in music).

The order in which the piece is played.

Any repeats?

Where?

Begin timed sight reading process. - Go through what was discussed with exact
answers from Skygazer Fanfare.

Road Map - D.S. at 29

Tricky rhythms - Off beats (measure 7, 15,(24) 29, (30)…)

Identify trick rhythms:

Band - sing and finger.

Teacher demonstrate.

Band repeats.

Find another measure it happens in.

Band - sing and finger that measure.

Sing and Finger through whole piece

Any questions?

Play through whole piece.

If it falls apart - Stop and restart at closest rehearsal number. - come back to
part later.

If time - work starting at measure 9.
