MINIS ON FILM
Cars star on the silver screen
Q Hagerty Insurance and Stowe School
have worked together to produce a special
film celebrating two anniversaries – 60
years of the Mini and 50 years since the
classic film, The Italian Job. Produced
largely in secret, it was revealed for the first
time to surprised parents and other guests
at the school’s annual Speech Day on May
25. The film itself opens to a scene of
doors being blown off, and school exam
papers being hurriedly thrown into the
back of one of three, red, white, and blue

by the expected authorities… cue a
dramatic chase involving handbrake turns,
feature cars and charming evasions, not to
mention some fantastic panning shots of
the three cars driving around various bits of
the school grounds.

SUPER COOPER
Name: Tony Maulder
Car: 1964 MkI Mini Cooper Even 25 years after its
Location: Milford, Auckland resto, the Cooper is
still winning prizes.
QTony bought his Cooper in the
early 1980s. It was complete, but
everything inside the car was in bits.
It had a thorough and very
expensive restoration in 1993, and
now 25 years after being restored,
it’s still in excellent condition. Tony
gave it a cut and polish, took all the
interior out and cleaned it, fixed the
paint chips and touched up the
paintwork in the boot and engine.
The son of the first owner of the
Cooper, Blair Robson, made a name
for himself and the car, by winning
the Auckland Car Club 1967
Midnight Madness road rally.
Tony has owned many Minis over
the years, including a Morris Mini
850. He entered the Cooper in the
2008 NZ Mini Nationals and claimed
2nd place in the restored class and
2nd overall. He takes his Cooper to
car shows and for a 14 mile drive to
the seaside every weekend.
