TIPS FOR SUCCESS

During this course, we will use the computer often for educational purposes only. Business classes
require using computers frequently. Therefore, if you want to succeed, you must attend class as much
as possible. Most work is done in class. If you are not here, you cannot get your work done on time.

If you are absent for any reason, it is your responsibility to see me about any make up work. Students
are allowed to stay after school to make up work on most Wednesdays. Please notify me if you plan to
stay after school for tutoring. Make up work must be done before or after school, during break or at
discretion of the instructor.

Now, the important tips that will help you succeed in Business Communications class:
✓ Keep all handouts!! NEVER throw away instructions on how to do something. You’ll need it
again.
✓ Keep track of all your work. You must have a folder or binder for this class. Punch holes in
your hard copy assignments and keep all your work as you receive it.

1
✓ Be patient! Computers are man-made machines—sometimes they will tear up, break down or
quit working at the worst possible time. Take it with a grain of salt and don’t stress over minor
inconveniences.
✓ SAVE work frequently to avoid major problems.
✓ Students may not leave class the first or last 15 minutes of class. For
example, if class starts at 10:00, a student may not leave class until 10:15.
If the class ends at 11:00, a student may not leave class later than 10:45.
✓ Your warm ups tell you what your daily goal is. Write down your warm
ups EVERY DAY!

NOT modify printer settings or try to figure it out on your own.
✓ Do not visit unacceptable Internet web sites OR visit any public chat rooms.
✓ Do not download programs or plug-ins for the computer without permission. If, when surfing
the Internet, a site says that it wants you to download something, you must say no or call the
teacher to your computer. No games can be downloaded!!!
✓ Students may not modify any settings on the computer. This includes printer settings,
screensavers, desktop wallpaper, and desktop icons. If you accidentally change something,
notify the teacher immediately.
