METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF THE STUDY

The respondents of this research were Grade 10 students of San Rafael Trade National
High School hence, the researchers used pre-test and post- test in this study that attempts
to determine the level of speech anxiety after the intervention, post-test was used for the
researcher have a concrete idea about the effectiveness of the intervention made. This sets
of test was also made to the study of famous researcher Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope 1986
was be the one to designed a Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety which has a 33
questions this FLCA is also used in their study about anxiety in speaking English?

After the diagnostic test (pre-test) a researchers conducted Seminar, to open the mind of
the respondent about anxiety; on how to deal with this kind of phenomena in speaking the
English Language and also a Workshop that engaged them in various activities to reduce
their apprehension in speaking English Language. The Directorate General of Higher
Education 2008 states that “the teaching learning process in the classroom must be
modified with some models such as SCL (Student Centered Learning), namely: small
group discussions, role play, simulations, case studies, discovery learning,
cooperative learning, etc.”. All of these models are highly recommended to develop
students‟ ability in getting better communication skills. As a result, students will be
more able to prepare themselves to participate in the future of their social life and will
have proficient skills. Furthermore, the objective of teaching speaking at higher education
levels or university level as stated in the Directorate General of Higher Education (Sub
Direktorat KPS, 2008), directives is aimed at training the students to be able to interpret
the content of various oral texts and respond to them interactively in interesting
activities. According to Nunan (1989), facing a challenge and changing. Students are not
considered as relatively passive recipients of knowledge, but rather active participants
and responsible for their own learning.

In this research a qualitative data was collected through workshop that the learners
involved themselves in different activities. However for the quantitative part it was done
through pre-test and post-test.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

To be able to conduct the aforementioned variables the researchers personally ask for the
permission from the office school principal of San Rafael Trade National High School
