I. OBJECTIVES:
Given a 60 minute discussion, the student should be able to:
a. Identify the structures of the respiratory system
b. Tell the major functions of the respiratory system
c. Design and create a model for pulmonary ventilation
Now, I would like you to inhale slowly. (Students inhale and exhale repeatedly)
Inhale, exhale … exhale
Now sit down, how does it feel? (Students respond)
Alright, our new lesson for today is all about the Breathing sir
respiratory system. Now, what common word do
you associate with the word respiratory system?
Good! By the way, why do we need to breath? We need to breath in order to supply our body
with sufficient oxygen sir.
You are right! Every cell in the body needs to run
to run the oxidative stages of cellular respiration,
which is the process by which energy is produced
in the form of ATP.
Bring out your reference materials. (Students bring out their books, gadgets, etc.)
What is the difference between the two zones? The conducting zone consists of all the structures
that provide passageways for air to travel into and
out of the lungs while the respiratory zone
includes the structures of the lung that are directly
involved in gas exchange
Absolutely right! Therefore, what structures are Nasal cavity, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, and most
present in the conducting zones? bronchioles.
This is how terminal bronchioles and alveoli look I noticed that my rib cage expands and moves
like. They are found inside the lungs. Now, what outward.
did you notice when you inhale awhile back before
our class starts?
What about when you exhale? My ribs relax and turn to normal.
Okay, time is up, pass all your outputs and present (Students present)
it on front.
Very nice. So, can someone summarize the lesson The respiratory system is necessary for gas
for today exchange which body needs. The respiratory
system is divided into conducting zone which
provides air passageways and respiratory zone
responsible for gas exchange. Pulmonary
ventilation consists of processes which includes
inspiration, which is the entering of air into the
lungs, and expiration, which is the release of air
from the lungs.
IV. EVALUATION :
I. Identification
1. Give one function of the respiratory system.
2. Zone that provides passageways to travel into and out of the lungs.
3. Zone that is responsible for gas exchange.
4. Process of which oxygen enters the lungs.
5. Process of which carbon dioxide get out of the lungs.
II. Assignment
Read about the pulmonary circulation.
