PANEL
and Indigenous oppression.
9:00am
This panel will explore the ongoing legacy of colonial occupation on
Indigenous lands, how the settler government of ‘Australia’ continues to control
and marginalise Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the resistance
against colonialism Indigenous people (in particular, women and non-binary
folk) continue to enact.
PANEL
There is no denying that the climate crisis is here, but what if we saw Climate
Change as both a crisis to be solved and an opportunity to completely reimagine
the future of our world?
This panel, featuring local feminists leading the fight for global Climate Justice,
will consider how Indigenous sovereignty is key to addressing Climate Change,
and how the rights and voices of people who have contributed least to global
warming (but are impacted most) can be highlighted in the movement.
They will push you to imagine a new world we can collectively strive for.
Join in with parents, caregivers and their children in a play circle full of fun
activities and discussion on the barriers to accessing childcare, and the impacts
this has on everyday life. In the format of play and discussion, this session will
unpack how affordable and flexible childcare arrangements can help caregivers
not only access the workforce but also have time to engage in activism,
passion projects, volunteering, sport and more.

MY CULTURE MY WAY
THE BALLROOM
PANEL
Beauty standards can not only be inherently sexist, but in Australia,
are additionally Eurocentric, racist and discriminatory.
This panel will explore the Westernisation of beauty standards, and how
their impact upon gender inequality and racism can be identified and
dismantled. Further discussion will consider the dynamics of multiculturalism
that are prevalent in the Australian corporate systems, and identify how these
dynamics contribute to racism, and racial and gender inequalities.
DISCUSSION
THE POLITICS OF DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE
THE BLUE ROOM
With 34 women and 11 children killed from domestic and family violence in
Australia this year alone, the situation is dire. This session aims to open up a
discussion of the economic, social and political causes and implications of
domestic and family violence. Join us as we discuss the structural failings of
the systems meant to prevent and protect, and how different intersections play
role in how this issue is understood and addressed.
11:00am
NOT JUST AN ANGRY FEMINIST
THE RIVER ROOM
WORKSHOP
Do you struggle for the right words when talking to your friends about feminism?
Does your family disregard your feminist rants at the dinner table? Join us for a
workshop on how to have inclusive, opinionated and informative conversations
in a way that will change hearts and minds, without being accused of being
‘just another angry feminist’.
This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to
have challenging discussions with all the people in your life, in particular:
friends and family.
WORKSHOP
THE LAWNS
Join the Gender Justice Superheros for an interactive and informative
workshop for aspiring young feminists, aged 5-10 years old! This workshop
will teach young feminists the importance of learning to recognise and
understand gender stereotypes, and how to challenge gender roles
and expectations in their own lives.
GREAT SEXPECTATIONS
THE BALLROOM
Get ready for the sex education class you never had! In this session we will
DISCUSSION
be discussing all things sex, including how sex education in schools can be made
more inclusive, busting the virginity myth, breaking down stigma around female
masturbation and sexual pleasure, and much more! Unlike most sex education
in schools, this session will be explored from an LGBTIQA+ and all abilities
inclusive perspective.
WORKSHOP
THE LAWNS
Who deserves to tell our stories more than us? Inspired by the words of
Frida Kahlo, this artist led workshop is all about expressing the intersection of
art, identity and politics through the medium of paint. Take inspiration from
Frida to draw on your own experience and come away with a piece of work
1:00pm
all of your own.
PERFORMANCE
ARTISTS UNLEASHED
THE BLUE ROOM
From music, to dancing, to spoken word poetry, join us for an hour
of stories and experiences told through the lens of creativity.
PANEL
From being exoticised and othered, to marginalised, unheard and unseen,
join us for a discussion seeking to challenge and disrupt pervasive stereotypes
perpetuated against people of Asian heritage.
This session will explore the Asian feminist movement and how mainstream
feminism fails to encapsulate Asian peoples’ experiences of gender, power,
sexuality and race. It will also interrogate the complex power dynamics
within the Asian community, particularly the experiences of non-East Asian
persons, women and gender non-conforming folk.
POETRY
2:00pm
Spoken word poetry can tell stories, share experiences, advocate for change
and help you speak your truth. Join spoken word poet Huda Fadlelmawla as
she takes you on a journey to an unfamiliar space and mindset, engaging you,
inspiring you and allowing you to reclaim your voice with spoken word.
DISCUSSION
THE BLUE ROOM
Are you sick of being asked ‘Have you tried yoga?’ when you talk about your
chronic pain, illness or disability? Are you tired of receiving medical advice from
friends and family, whilst simultaneously experiencing discrimination by the
medical profession? Join this discussion to learn about chronic pain, disability,
unsolicited medical advice from friends and family, discrimination within the
medical profession, and how to take back your autonomy.
advocates, activists and changemakers on the next steps for the Brisbane
feminist movement.
3:00pm
Speakers will share their thoughts on the aspects of feminism they believe
are central to the future of this movement, and will challenge you to be more
radical, ambitious and intersectional than ever before. We promise you will
leave this session feeling empowered and inspired to continue fighting for
global gender equality.
