Solução De Problemas Da Placa XYZ Do Plasma

Neste artigo, vou ajudá-lo a entender onde essas três placas estão localizadas, o que elas
fazem, o que acontece quando elas falham e como solucionar problemas dessas placas.

Estou usando isso (veja a imagem acima) LG plasma 60ps11-ua porque eu conheço
cada parte dele.

Primeiro, o que as placas fazem:

1. Y-Sustain Board: Esta é a placa que impulsiona todos os sinais do painel do eixo Y
vindos da placa lógica, de onde vem o nome. Esta placa também requer as voltagens Vs
e Va derivadas da placa da fonte de alimentação. A placa Y-sus PRIMA o painel. Faz
com que acenda o painel de Pitch Black para Subtle Grey. Se ficar por mais de alguns
segundos, isso indica que está bom.
 2. Placa de Driver SDR ou Y Superior: É a placa que aciona toda a metade superior dos
sinais de plasma vindos do Y-Sustain para as linhas individuais no painel de plasma.

3. Placa de Driver SDR ou Y Menor: A placa que aciona toda a metade inferior dos
sinais de plasma vindos do Y-Sustain para as linhas individuais no painel de plasma.

4. Placa de Sustentação Z ou X: São na verdade a placa de descarga de painéis e

controla a parte do eixo X da tela de plasma, também é fornecida pelas tensões Vs e Va
da placa da fonte de alimentação. A placa Z-sus define o nível de brilho da imagem. Se
estiver ruim, você tira uma foto, ela fica ligada, mas sua imagem é tão escura que você

Falha na placa
Erros possíveis:

 Piscar pixels na tela.

 Tem áudio, mas não tem vídeo.
 Linhas de cor verticais na tela.
 Barras verticais na tela.
 Linhas de cor verticais junto com o vídeo.
 A foto fica predominantemente vermelha depois de um tempo.
 Linhas horizontais na imagem.
 Imagem escura.
 A TV é ligada e desligada.
 Imagem negativa.
 A tela fica preta e aparece com a foto.
Todas as falhas acima estão relacionadas às placas de sustentação X, Y ou Z. Essas
placas parecem diferentes dos modelos para os modelos e fabricantes.
 O conselho do Y-Sustain provavelmente será mais defeituoso do que outros. Existem
placas de buffer nesta placa Y-Sustain. Se a placa Y-sustain estiver com defeito, é a
melhor prática substituir essas placas de buffer junto com ela, pois os danos na placa Y-
Sustain também podem danificar essas placas.

Problemas comuns:

1. Motion Blur: A imagem é lenta para atualizar (motion blur) e tem um tom roxo ou
lilás para ele. Z-SUS

2. Linhas horizontais: A imagem tem linhas indo da esquerda para a direita em posições
fixas. O buffer Y está com defeito ou as conexões do driver Y estão soltas.

3. Sem foto: Essa é uma grande, muitas causas, muitos problemas. Primeiro, verifique
se você tem som quando conecta uma fonte. Se assim for, provavelmente não é uma
falha na fonte de alimentação. O aparelho responde ao controle remoto ou botões

4. Visor intermitente: geralmente é acompanhado por um “tique-taque” vindo da placa

Se O Seu Televisor De Plasma Não Tem

Imagem Nem Som:
Aqui estão os passos que você precisa tomar para solucionar problemas de sua TV de
plasma com defeito.

1. Desligue a TV e desconecte-a da parede.

2. Aguarde 5 minutos para que os capacitores sejam descarregados.
3. Desconecte o conector indo para o Z-sustain e conecte a TV de volta.
4. Verifique se há som. Se houver som, o problema é com o Z-sustain. Se não então:

TV de plasma tem som mas nenhuma imagem:
Se a sua TV de plasma não tem imagem, mas o som ainda funciona, então o problema é
geralmente devido a um Y-sustain defeituoso. Se você tiver sorte, pode ser apenas um
fusível queimado, que é facilmente substituível. Mas se não, você pode ter que
substituir todo o Y-sustain. Para testar o fusível, siga estas etapas:

1. Desconecte a TV e espere 5 minutos para que os capacitores descarreguem.

2. Coloque o seu multímetro digital em 200 ohms.
3. Toque no vermelho e preto juntos. A leitura deve estar em torno de 0 a 2 ohms.
4. Conecte as pontas de prova em cada extremidade do fusível com o multímetro. Se
estiver escrito “1” no lado esquerdo ou “OL”, o fusível está queimado. Se você
obtiver o mesmo valor em ambos os lados, o fusível não é o problema.
Se o fusível queimar novamente, você precisará reparar ou substituir o Y-
sustain. (Muitas vezes é muito mais fácil e barato substituir a placa do que consertá-la -
a menos que você tenha muita experiência fazendo esses reparos por conta própria).

Placa Y-Sustain
Se a sustentação Y estiver ruim, você não poderá ter uma tela completamente azul. Será
uma imagem ruim, sem imagem ou morta. Não tem nada a ver com o som, a menos que
os buffers estejam em curto.

Falha comum na placa Y-Sustain

1. Golpes ou Pops, cheira a um cracker de fogo.

2. Nenhuma imagem ou imagem distorcida
3. Imagem distorcida ou neve colorida.
4. TV piscando tela branca sobre cada segundo e um som de tique-taque
5. TV aparece, a tela está escura, pode ou não haver som. Se não houver som, suspeite

 Lg Plasma reset:
Se a luz vermelha estiver piscando na frente da TV e a TV não ligar. Em seguida,
remova o cabo de alimentação de retorno da TV. Pressione o interruptor on / off no lado
para que você drene toda a energia residual. Conecte o cabo de força. Ligue a TV
usando o controle remoto. Quando a luz verde for pressionada, pressione o botão do

maioria das TVs de Plasma são uma indicação de uma placa ruim conhecida como placa
de driver de machado. Sua pequena possibilidade pode ser um pequeno cabo de fita que

botão liga / desliga da unidade e pressiona a fonte e outros
botões e há atividade, mas ainda não há imagem ou som,
apenas uma tela preta.Mesmo quando eu pressiono os botões
 fonte / volume / canal eu não consigo barra de volume /
números / menu de fonte.Eu li que poderia ter sido a placa
lógica principal, especialmente se a luz verde pisca mais rápido
do que uma vez por segundo, qual foi; e que quando a
sustentação de Y vai mal, geralmente o X é o principal. Então
eu mudei também. Nada ainda. Tela preta, sem barra de
volume, números de canal ou menu de origem e sem som. Eu
não acho que é a placa de energia como eu tenho poder e luz
de espera funciona em conformidade. Isso é uma má
sustentação de novo ou devo mudar a única tábua para
mudar? a placa principal?

In this article, I will help you to understand where these 3
boards are located, what they do, what happens when they fail
and how to troubleshoot these boards.

**DANGER! A plasma TV has voltages in excess of 380V on

some connectors.**
The capacitance on the Vsus bus (>4,500µF) is easily enough
to jump-start your heart and can power the TV for half a second
with a fully white picture, that’s over 200 joules. UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES TOUCH ANY PART ON THE BACK OF
THE TV WHILE IT IS RUNNING OR SHORTLY AFTER
POWER OFF!
I highly recommend you have someone around watching you
while you service the tv.

I’m using this (see image above) LG plasma 60ps11-ua
because I know every part in it.

First, what the boards do:

1. Y-Sustain Board: This is the board that drives all the Y-axis
panel signals coming from the logic board, that where it’s name
comes from. This board also requires the Vs and Va voltages
derived from the power supply board. The Y-sus board PRIMES
the panel. Makes it light up the panel from Pitch Black to a
 Subtle Gray. If it stays on longer than a couple seconds, that
indicates it’s good.

2. Upper SDR or Y Driver Board: Is the board that drives all the
upper half part of the plasma screen signals coming from the Y-
Sustain to the individual lines on the plasma panel.

3. Lower SDR or Y Driver Board: Is the board that drives all the
lower half part of the plasma screen signals coming from the Y-
Sustain to the individual lines on the plasma panel.

4. Z or X Sustain Board: Are actually the panels discharge

board and controls the X- axis part of the plasma screen, also
it’s supplied by Vs and Va voltages from the power supply
board. The Z-sus board sets the brightness level of the picture.
If it’s bad, you get a picture, it stays on, but your picture is so
dark that you see speckles/blobs of dots that move around and
it’s because the brightest part of the picture just “barely lights”
up the panel. The X-sus’ purpose is to create/deliver the picture
in Vertical Bands. When those go bad, you get a normal picture,
but you also get BANDS of vertical that are black or bands of
noise about 2 inches wide.

5. The Main Board: This board does all the video, and the
sound, and the system control, and it looks for “fault codes” and
shuts the TV down. It does the Onscreen displays like the
volume bar, the menu, the Input/channel displays...It does
everything.

6. The Logic Board: This board takes the picture from the main
board, converts it to digital, sends the digital data stream to the
X and Y boards, and sends the brightness to the Z board.

Board failure

Possible Errors:

 Flashing pixels on screen.

 Have audio but no video.
 Vertical color lines on screen.
 Vertical Bars on screen.
 Vertical color lines along with video.
 Picture goes Red predominant after a while.
 Horizontal lines on image.
 Dark image.
 TV turns ON, and shut down.
 Negative image.
 Screen goes black, and come on with picture.
All the above faults are related to either X,Y or Z sustain
boards. These boards look different to models to models, and
manufacturer.

Y-Sustain board is likely to be more faulty than others. There

are buffer boards to this Y-Sustain board. If Y-sustain board is
found faulty, it is the best practice to replace these buffer
boards along with it because damage to Y-Sustain board might
damage these boards too.

Common problems:

1. Motion Blur: The picture is slow to update (motion blur) and

has a purple or lilac tinge to it. Z-SUS

2. Horizontal lines: The picture has lines going from left to right
in fixed positions. The Y-buffer is faulty or the Y-driver
connections are loose.

3. No picture: This is a big one, lots of causes, lots of problems.

First, check if you have sound when you plug in a source. If so,
it’s probably not a power supply fault. Does the set respond to
the remote control or side buttons? Is it stuck in standby? There
are too many power supply faults here to debug.
 4. Flashing display: This is usually accompanied with a “ticking”
coming from the YSUS board, about once every second, in
sync with the blinking display. This failure indicates one of the
two large ICs on the board has failed. We replace both ICs,
though, since the still live one is not too far from failing either

5. No image on display (black screen), sound possibly present.

Sound is most likely working fine, even if you do not hear it, as
it is easy to lose proper input and, therefore, sound if you see
nothing on the screen and start pressing buttons in hopes of
bringing it back to life.

6. Bottom half of screen is black with sporadic color: There are

a couple of problems that will cause this symptom. The lower y-
buffer board, y-sustain board, or the z/x-sustain board, on rare
occasions the power supply.

7. X-Y-Z Sustain Failure: This can cause different issues, these

are some of the most common:

 Negative image
 TV turns on and then shuts down after 2 seconds
 Flashing pixels on screen
 There is sound, but no video
 The screen goes black, then returns to normal
 There are vertical colored lines, but no video
 There are vertical colored lines with sound
 There are vertical bars
 There are horizontal lines on the image
 The picture goes red after a while
There are hundreds of symptoms; these are the most common.

If Your Plasma TV Has No Picture

And No Sound:
 Here are the steps you need to take in order to troubleshoot
your malfunctioning plasma TV.

1. Turn off the TV and unplug it from the wall.

2. Wait 5 minutes so that the capacitors are discharged.
3. Unplug the connector going into the Z-sustain and then plug
the TV back in.
4. Check for sound. If there’s sound, then the problem is with
the Z-sustain. If not, then:
5. Unplug the TV and wait another 5 minutes. Then disconnect
the Y-sustain and re-connect the Z-sustain.
6. Plug the TV back in and check for sound. If there’s sound,
then the problem is with the Y-sustain.
If the problem seems to be coming from the Y-sustain, you also
need to check out the buffer. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the TV and wait 5 minutes.

2. Remove the buffer and see if you get a picture with sound.
3. If your TV has two buffers, disconnect the upper buffer and
see if you get a picture on the lower screen.
4. Then disconnect the lower buffer and see if you get a picture
on the upper screen.
5. If, after removing one of the boards, you can see a picture,
you know that the removed board is the problem.
You should also check out this video, which can guide you step-

Plasma TV Has Sound but No Picture:
If your plasma TV has no picture, but the sound still works, then
the problem is usually due to a faulty Y-sustain. If you’re lucky,
it could just be a blown fuse, which is easily replaceable. But if
not, you might have to replace the entire Y-sustain. To test the
fuse, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the TV and wait 5 minutes for the capacitors to

discharge.
2. Set your digital multimeter to 200 ohms.
3. Touch the red and black together. The reading should be
around 0-2 ohms.
4. Connect the probes on each end of the fuse with the
multimeter. If it reads “1” on the left-hand side, or “OL,” then
the fuse is blown. If you get the same value on both sides,
then the fuse isn’t the problem.
If the fuse blows again, you will need to repair or replace the Y-
sustain. (It’s often times much easier and cheaper to replace
the board than to fix it—unless you have a lot of experience
doing these repairs yourself).

Signs of Plasma Power Board Failure

1. No full start-up, relay clicking-
2. Relay clicks once then shuts down into protection mode-(red
standby power light)
3. Relay clicks in cycles, then goes to protection mode-
4. No relay click, stuck in standby only
5. Dead no picture, no sound, no standby light
6. Turns off after 10 or 20 minutes
7. Turns on, immediate shut down
8. TV, turns on, no picture, no sound.
9. Clicking on/off, on/off
10. No Power
11. No 5 Volt
12. Black Screen, Red flashing standby light-Capacitors
13. Flashing red power light
Signs of Plasma Main Board Failure

1. No sound
2. No picture but has Menu display
3. Intermittent sound
4. No video from input
5. Picture distorted
6. Grey colored screen
7. Snow Picture
Signs of Plasma X-Y-Z Sustain Board Failure

1. Screen cuts on and off

2. Startup then shuts down
3. Colored Pixels on screen
4. Dark image
5. Sound, no video
6. Horizontal lines
7. Vertical colored lines
Signs of Plasma Buffer Board Failure

1. No video, has sound

2. Black vertical Bars
3. Different size vertical lines
4. Horizontal lines
Signs of Plasma Logic Board Failure

1. Only Left or Right side of screen working

2. No video, has sound
3. No menu display
4. Vertical and horizontal lines
5. Part of screen distorted
Y-Sustain Board
If the Y sustain is bad, you cannot have a completely blue
screen. It will either be a bad picture, no picture or dead. It has
nothing to do with the sound, unless buffers are shorted.

Common Y-Sustain Board Failure

1. Blows or Pops, smells like a fire cracker.

2. No picture or distorted picture
3. Distorted picture, or colored snow.
4. TV flashing white screen about every second and a ticking
sound
5. TV comes up, display is dark, there may or may not be
sound. If no sound, suspect Buffers
6. TV clicks on and quickly back off
7. Clicks on and shortly after back off, then after a short pause
tries again
Here are some symptoms of Y-Sustain board failure–

1. TV on, screen primed with no picture

2. Brief picture, then TV on with no picture
3. Picture on then off at start up
4. TV on, no picture, then shuts down
5. Audio on, no picture
6. TV on, no picture, primed screen only
Lg Plasma reset:
If the red light is blinking in front of the TV and the TV does not
switch on. Then remove the back power cable from the TV.
Press the on/off switch on the side so that you drain all the
residual power. Plug back the power cable. Switch on the TV
using remote control. Once you see the green light press the
channel ( ) button do not let it go until the TV switch`s on. This
process will bypass the traditional power to switch on the TV
instead the TV will be switched on using the TV channel power
to the TV

Z-Sustain Board

1. The picture is slow to update (motion blur)

2. Has a purple tinge to it
3. Foggy
4. Half of the screen may be distorted more than the other half
5. This is in about 95% of cases the Z-sustain
Z-Sustain Board Repair Kit
Kit content:

 6 Power IGBT Transistors

 12 surface mount resistors
 1 fuse
Fixes following symptoms:

 Will not turn on

 No picture or Blown Fuse
 Z-Sus board not working
 Blown fuse
 TV has sound no picture
 When turned off, you hear a zap
X-Sustain Board- ( buffers at bottom of panel) Always causes
black vertical bars. If your Plasma Screen has lines on the
screen going from left to right, suspect Logic Board, Control
Board. Thin black horizontal lines on most Plasma TV’s is an
indication of a bad board known as a x driver board. Their may
be a slight possibility it can be a small ribbon cable that runs
from the driver board to the plasma panel. Another possibility, it
can be a bad panel. If your lines keep getting worse, suspect a
bad ribbon cable.

Symptoms and Repair for Plasma TVs

1. Stand-by only, no full power up - Y-Sustain

2. Thin white horizontal lines across top of screen - Y-Drive
Board or Y-Buffers
3. No full start-up, relay clicking - Power Board
4. Dead, no stand-by power - Power Board
5. Standby, then immediate protection mode - Power Board
6. Quick flash, then shut down into protection mode - Z-Sustain
Board
7. Sound, no picture, no menu - Y-Sustain Board
8. Partial start-up with one relay click, then shut down - Power
Board
9. Relay clicks once, then shut down - Power board
10. Momentary start-up with welcome screen, then shut
down - Y-Sustain Board
11. Thick horizontal black line across middle of screen - Y-
Drive Board(Buffer)
12. Horizontal black line across lower section of screen - Y-
Drive Board-(Buffer)
13. Scrambled lines and patterns on menu screen, jumping
picture - Logic Board
14. Protection mode only, then dead - Power Board
15. Stand-by, then protection mode - Power Board

 my10cents:Justin–So your not getting any picture-If the picture
just quite on you 1 day, I would say Y-Sustain Board. But in
your case, the surge came in through you wall plug and went
into your Power Board. So your problem is on your Primary side
of Power Board. You would need a technician to fix that and it’s
not worth the money–So we know you need a Power Board.
How ever did lightning also come in through your cable–Don’t
know–You have sound- so your Power light is on This means
Main board should be good–Can you channel up –the screen
should flash as channels advance? At this time I would just
replace power Board and see if that turns the TV on–
 Justin:I have sound, I know the inputs change because it took
me forever to get back to the coax input so I could hear white
noise. the screen lights up when I power up the tv, but I get no
picture, numbers, or anything. I have checked voltages on
boards and it matches factory setting on the sticker, so I would
assume something on the board or boards is fried even though
nothing noticeable can be seen. I have found a website to buy
each board for it, not too much.
 my10cents:Justin– You say that all voltages are good on power
board (VA, VS) are close to what they should be- Do you have
a OSD Display (Menu) and can you channel up and down, do
the same with sound– That would verify that the main should be
good–Your VA and VS are getting to the Y-Sustain and to the
X-Sustain Board-? You have a logic board or t-con board and
there should be 2 green LEDS where 1 stays solid and the
other flashes once per second–Are those working –??
 my10cents:Justin- take your power board and flip it over a look
close at all the SMD’s-magnify glass would help and see if you
can see some pieces that look burnt- Do same with Main
Board–What do I look for–anything that does not fit the pattern
of a good board–I have had boards where the SMD’s have left
the board–If SMD solder point is smooth then that’s good, it’s
when there’s solder left that is not smooth–IF SMD’S (Resistors,
Transistors, small brown capacitors, small black diodes, coils—-
)look burnt they leave a heat mark in the middle–Resistors you
will not be able to read the number on top–
 Justin:Ok, LEDs are working, now that I have put it back
together, the y sus voltage is pulsating starting at 11v and
pulses to about 34v, I can hear a slight chirp coming from what
looks like a transformer. I swear I had voltage before I took it
apart, and it is reassembled correctly, I checked the voltage on
the Z board on the bottom right test point and have 105v. Do
not see any signs of damage on front or back of any of the
boards. I suppose the y board is bad.
 my10cents:The way you described your problem in the first
post, it described the Y-Sustain. Is your voltage
on P802–y-sus connector on power board-Is 10 pins–which go
like this–
Pin 10= 5v (Pin 10 is closest to middle of board_
Pin 9= 5v
Pin 8= Grd
Pin 7=VA VA 68 Volts
Pin 6=VA
Pin 5=Grd
Pin 4=Grd
Pin 3=N/C
Pin 2=VS VS =196 Volts
 Pin 1=VS (Pin 1 is at edge of board) Is that what your getting-?
You have 4 fuses on this board–1 large ceramic fuse, then 3
SMD fuses. 2 located where Y-Sus power comes from power
board and 1 over on left side of first heat sink– Have you
checked those–If you need more testing points let me know–As
for now I would only change the Y-Sustain Board through my
experience with them–That transformer—Is that the one on the
left side of heat sinks–Is that the one making that chirping
noise-That’s lack of power to the transformer–Till next time

 Justin:Checking connector P302 voltages to ground, VS-196v
on both, VA-68v on both, 5V-5v on both, fuses are good,
FS301-68v, FS302-196v, FS303-5v, FS901-5v, test points for
VS and VA on lower left corner of board is where my voltage is
pulsing. My board is identical to the one in second picture on
this webpage. With voltages good on connector pins and fuses,
leads me to bad transformer on secondary side.

OR T902 ) –If all voltages are good at connector P302, then we
know it’s the Y-Sustain is no good–

 my10cents:Your TV does work ok–Your problem is button
board or the IR Sensor–Make sure nothing is blocking the path
of remote to TV–Or at worst Main Board–
I’ll send you a remote reset–I don’t think it will help–Take the
 LG remote, and take the batteries out , hold power button for 30
seconds, then put batteries back in then try it–Also rub your
fingers up and down on button board–Let me know–If this is not
the fix then suspect IR Sensor–Any questions ask–
 William:Hi, im willian and I have s lg 50 in plasma model no.
50px4dr-ua. The bottom half has color lines that look like they
are rolling. I unplugged the bottom buffer and the screen went
black with no picture. It was flashing blocks with horizontal lines
but for some reason they stopped. This was all over the screen.
Y sustain board or buffer or both?
 Ali:I have a 50 inch samsung plasma that stopped working, if I
disconnect the X/Z sustain the tv turns and there is a picture
and sound, but slightly dark on that board’s side and everything
else fucntions normally. While the tv is on, there is also some
crackling sound coming from the copper ribbon cables coming
out of the z/x sustain, even though it is disconnected.
If I plug the z/x back ino the power supply, there is a ticking
sound for a couple of seconds and then nothing, as if there is a
short somewhere from the z/x sustain and power supply.
Do I buy a z/x board or is there another underlying problem that
is the root cause?

 my10cents:Are you referring to the copper colored flex cables
that come from the panel to the Z-Sustain Board–What I would
do at this time is take off your front bezel( Plastic Frame) and
take a look at where they connect to the panel–Sounds like a it
could be shorting out there-I don’t want to scare you, but if the
copper flex cable at panel is good, I would suspect z-sustain
board–

 my10cents:This is quite common with these TV,s. 99.9% of the
time when you have sound and a black screen, it’s the Y-
 Sustain Board–But here’s the catch–You have to verify that the
upper and lower buffers are good–Now we know the Y-sustain
Board is no good and more than likely the upper and lower
buffers are good–But there’s that 1% chance –We’ve been
getting away with just the Y-Sustain Replacement–So I leave it
up to you–Your TV–And yes if it were me I would just replace
the Y-Sustain–

 Samsung 64" TV:working on a picture now - my wife has to take
it for me as I am at work.
I will try to describe it better in the meantime.
It is like a black storm cloud is over the image - you can see
everything behind the shadow. It is most noticeable on a white
backround. It is approximately in the middle of the screen. The
screen has normal brightness above and below the horizontal
shadow.
 my10cents:That’s panel failure-Your screen has separated and
this will get worse–
Replacing the screen will cost more than the TV by 1/2, which
means total cost of TV plus 1/2. So if your TV cost $2000
dollars your screen replacement would be $2500 Dollars–

affect screen uniformity on a plasma, Burn-in & Dead Pixels.
But aside from user-initiated image retention or burn-in,
plasmas can also have inherent pixel faults which result in non-
uniform areas. Such issues, usually referred to as patches,
blobs, or clouds, are typically areas of the screen where the
pixels are biased towards a particular color, and are most
noticeable when viewing a uniform background, particularly a
solid white or mid-grey background.

 my10cents:There’s no boards in the set that can fix this–Upper
and Lower buffers and even replacing the Y-Sustain and Z-
Sustain will not fix this–
 Its your pixel dots or phosphor dots that emit light on your
screen–Those are failing–The only fix is a new screen

Support and tell them your problem–Samsung is famous for
recalls on there TV’s–
They might have a recall on your Model for screen

board and everything looks OK, no popped capacitors and
solder joints are good. I also check the X-Sustain board and all
appeared OK as well. I have not looked at the upper or lower Y
drive buffer boards. Do you think one of these could be the
fault? How do i check them to be for sure so i can order the
correct part. Thank you.

Your right– the bottom Buffer is shot–It’s recommended that

I am an old, 75 yr, old school TV tech, but no experience with
plasma so I need help.
This tv had a lot of speckled colored lines..
After warming up a few minutes, it developed a large black
cloud/ragged blob over the picture. the part of the picture
around the edges looked ok.
Since the blob seemed to be caused by heat, I used cold spray
to check around, and eventually found that by spraying the
upper left corner (around the resistors r442,r4443, and r444) of
the logic control board, I could eliminate the blob, and go back
to a picture that just had lines and speckles.
There are 2 green lights, 1 flashes steadily
Alternating heat and cold, would make the problem come and
 go. The areas I sprayed were too large to isolate the exact
component being affected, so I removed the board, and
masked off areas from the cold spray to try and narrow down.
After doing this a couple of times to the front and back of the
board, I stopped getting a picture of any kind.
Now the remote control works to turn the set on and off, and all
the voltages on the power supply seem ok, but absolutely no
light on the screen.
In checking the zsus board, Some alignment procedures I
downloaded say to set the Z bias control to the voltage
indicated on the module, but I see no voltage sticker on the
module. the actual voltage is 103 volts.
There is a voltage label, near the model number sticker, but I’m
not sure how to apply it, and there is no reference to Z bias
voltage.
Another snag, is that this set was used in a bar, and I think the
sound was disabled, so I cant tell if the sound is working.

Are the lines vertical or horizontal or both–?
This covers a lot of boards from your Upper and Lower Buffer to
Logic Board and possible Main Board–
Then you lost picture to a black screen, and still not sure of
sound–
Are your 2 green lights still on in the logic board–1 on 1
flashing-?
Also is your TV is on with green light–?
As for sound–Unplug TV for 10 minutes, hold power button on
TV for 60 seconds–Plug in turn on–Also if you have a cable
box–Unplug it press power button on box for 5 seconds, plug in
turn on–

snowy or noisy picture with some thin vertical lines, Then slowly
goes blacker with maybe some red like a big monster blob

turning on with remote the long blue light flashes on for a
second, then the light on the right stays on very pale blue
turning off with remote control, lower right light is red
On the Logic Board
The upper green is off for a couple of secs, then long blink,
short blink, long blink, short blink, then back to the beginning.
The lower green light is on all the time.
I have a satellite receiver hooked to the tv via component
inputs.
so with no sound or pix, I’m not even sure when/if the
component mode is selected
I put a scope on the "even" test points on the rear left driver
boards, and there is activity and wave forms there, but I dont
know if they are correct.
I tried unplugging, holding power button down 60 sec and
repowering, but no change

Sorry–Don’t have a repair manual or even found one– “Then

nothing” Does your Power light turn right off, as in dead TV-? Or
does it go to solid red standby– The Z-Sustain can do this, but
you should have sound and some kind of a picture– Logic 1
light steady green, that’s good, other is 1 long 1 short 1 long,
that’s good- But when you spray Logic Board it clears up—Lets
disconnect the Z-Sustain Board, at Power Board-? Maybe try
that–If your having trouble with the Z-Sustain Board, when you
disconnect it, your TV should stay on– It wouldn’t hurt to do the
same with the Y-Sustain–It’s the same thing, Disconnect at
Power Board- if that is the problem, the TV should come on–
Worth a try– With Y-Sustain disconnected you should get a
primed TV screen with sound-With Z-Sustain you should get
some kind of a picture with sound– Maybe sound –Don’t know
yet–Got to figure out sound– Try that and let me know–

So we know your Power Board is good, we also know that your
Main Board is good–and your Z-Sustain is good- Your Logic
Board has a green light on it–Just by the large IC, bottom left,
it’s white– If that light is on, then your have a Y-Sustain Board
problem– Probably just your Y-Sustain board and not you upper
or lower buffers– When replacing the Y-Board it is
recommended that you replace the upper and lower buffers–But
most just replace the Y-Sustain Board– Any questions ask-

check the audio...it was working when the screen died initially.

 Ramo:Hi I have an LG 60PC1D that had a dim picture, messed
up colors and black splotches that would fade in and out. I was
 told it could be a blown fuse so I replaced three of the fuses -
the two 6.3A fuses on the Y-Sus board and the one 6.3A on the
Z-sus board. When I turned the TV on, I heard the dreaded
POP sound, which I believe came from the left side of the TV,
where the Z-sus board is located. So after quickly unplugging
the TV, and letting it sit for an hour, I tried to pull out the fuse on
the Z-sus board and the ceramic housing broke. But I noticed
that the wire connecting the two ends was still intact. So it
sounds to me like I blew the Z-sus board. But I don’t know how
changing a fuse (fuse I used is 6.3A/250V) can blow the board.
Is it possible that that’s what happened? Thanks for you help.
 my10cents:So what happened, is that you took out a fuse that
was no good, put in a new fuse and it popped–
That is usually what happens–Your Z-Sustain Board more than
likely has a Mosfet Transistor, (Insulated Gate Field Effect
Transistor or IGFET) that is shorted.
You can look for a repair kit–Might get it going or just replace
the Z-Sustain Board–

 Ramo:Ok but the fuse i took out after the pop still has the wire
connecting the two ends of the fuse. Could it be blown but still
have the wire intact?
 my10cents:S the fuse you took out still has continuity, but is
broke–or has broke-
You still have a problem with you Z-Sustain board– Maybe the
fuse is good, but the mosfets, I believe is where your problem
is–Regardless of the fuse, is that your shorted open therefore
the peice or peices if they where working would short ot the
fuse again–

 Ramo:I just cracked open one of the old fuses I replaced and
the wire looks different than the one in the new fuse that broke
(old one is just a thin straight wire and new one is coiled around
something). I think I bought the wrong kind of fuse. Could that

fuse out, there are markings on the board as to what fuse type

I did not get any sound with the Y-Sustain plugged in. I
unplugged the ribbon cable to the Y-Sustain and got a
"frequency hmm" but that was it.
Also, the green LED on the mother board flashes very slowly
with the Y-Sustain plugged in. It flashes faster with the ribbon
cable to the Y-Sustain disconnected.
 Samsung55plasma:Also, when i first turn the TV on it gives a
very quick flash of light across part of the screen. It doesn’t fill
the screen, and it isn’t "quality" light. It’s grainy and quick. Don’t
know if that helps...just thought I’d let you know. haha

If you have patients–
There’s 2 ways, if the first does work then you will have to try
the second-
1)- Remove batteries and hold power button for 30 seconds–
Put in new batteries and try remote–
2)-Remove batteries and press every button on remote for 3
seconds and that includes the cursor DVD, VCR, ALL
BUTTONS–See if that works-
If these buttons are on your remote–
Press Home and Back, 5 times simultaneously–
Testing Remote–
Grab a digital camera and turn it on, or cell phone–. Point the
remote at the camera’s lens and press some buttons. If the
remote is working, you will see the infra red blinks in your LCD
screen on the camera.
If you see the blinks, the remote is good and your TV’s IR
receiver is bad.
Let me know one what or the other.

panel–

First, since you replaced Buffer, find the flex cable that lines up
with the horizontal blur bar and then loosen it and move it a little
bit left to right or side ways and see if it will disappear-
As for still not getting a picture, I think I would replace the Logic
Board–I think that’s stopping your picture-

 Ramo:Sorry I didn’t clarify - Since I replaced the Z-sus board,
the Tv functions perfectly in every way, except that it has that
faint sprinkly blue bar, which isn’t visible unless it’s against a
lighter background (sometimes you can’t see it). I will post a
picture in that forum. The tv model is LG 60pc1d, I believe it
could be 10 years old, not sure. Thanks.

If you Power Board is good, More than likely-
Have you checked your VA or VS Voltage-
If there good, Suspect Panel Failure-
There’s also the issue, of Model Number and then If your Z-
Sustain power supply is connected to the Power Board or to the
Y-Sustain Power Board. If both boards test good, Panel is all
that’s left-

 Dpergis:I have a 50 inch zenith plasma TV. When I turn it on it

if everything is plugged in the TV won’t turn on.

 milan156:Hello, I have a Samsung PS51E6500 Plasma TV. It
stopped working while watching a 3D movie. The screen turned
black, the SmartTV logo came up for about half a second. The
screen stays completely black and it doesn’t react to anything,
including changing channels, opening the menu, etc. The
sound, however, does work. When the TV is turned on, there is
a slight glow for about 2 seconds, after which the screen turns
completely black.
I checked the Va and Vs voltages. They are correct and do not
fluctuate. The logic board has a green blinking light that blinks
at a pace of 1 a second. I checked the y buffer board with a
multi-meter and as far as I can tell, none of the chips are short-
circuited. I ran the PAL test successfully by connecting the 2
pins on the logic board. The y board seems to be working
because when I plug it out from the logic board, the logic board
reports an error (one blink per 5 seconds).
It sounds as though this is a problem with the main board
because everything else seems to be working fine, however, I
can’t find a test online specifically for the main board. I am
wondering whether there is something I have missed out.

 60" LG Plasma TV:My plasma TV the Zsus board has 2 screws
in the center that burned out those connections then the TV has
the red LED but nothing else. I replaced the part and the TV
worked for 4 months then the same thing happen. What do you
think is creating the issue. By the way I love your articles, it is

I’m sure the 2 screws, were put in tight.
The only thing possible is to maybe replace the Z-Sustain
Buffer.
Can’t be screen.
Do you hear any arching in between the Z-Sustain Buffer and
panel. LG has issues where brown flex cables are micro
soldered to the panel. Could be the start of panel failure.
Nothing to back it up.
So if your going to replace the Z-Sustain Board, replace the Z-
Sustain Buffer.

use a picture of your TV.

How can I know if it is the plasma screen or (x,y, or buffer

The best way to know is to disconnect power to Y-Sustain, Z-
Sustain and X-Sustain (Lower Buffers) and turn on TV. but your
Power Board isn’t working, so have to wait till then, or try it now-
Disconnect Y-Sustain and Z-Sustain. Lower buffer is supplied
power by Y or Z Sustain Board. Should also disconnect flex
Cables on both Y and Z boards.

 Try this-
TV Reset-
Unplug TV from wall plug for 10 minutes, then press and hold
power button on TV for 60 seconds–Plug in turn on–
Reset-
Press and hold both ‘vol’ and ‘menu’ on TV side panel.
Continue hold while pressing and releasing ‘power’ on the
panel. Release the hold after a count to 5.
If you have no menu button use- ( input and volume up )
There is one step you can take here, both as a possible fix, as
well as a diagnostic evaluation
1) Unplug the power cord from the TV.
2) Wait at least 1 hour (60+ Minutes)
3) Press and hold the power button (on the set, not the remote)
for 60 seconds
4) Keep holding power button while plugging back in, and for
another 60 seconds after. When plugging back in, go directly to
the wall outlet, bypassing any power strips or surge protectors.

 Patrick_L134:Very good article ! I have a dilemma of my own
with my Samsung PN60E8000GFXZA unit. It turns itself off
after just the few mins, followed by "clicking" sounds ( same
click sound when you turn the TV on ). 3 "click" sounds and
then red LED standby light starts to blink ( 2 quick blinks / 5
times ). I have to unplug it from an outlet for at least 5-10 mins
for it to go on, but then again it shuts off. Rarely it will stay on
the whole time but when i go to turn it off and turn it back on the
next day, it wont stay on. I opened the TV to look at the
capacitors and they seem fine. No swelling. The dilemma is
whether I should buy the main board or the power board.
What would you think ?

 I take it your familiar with the boards- So did you try this-
Disconnect both Y-Z Sustain Boards from Power Board, and let
me know if your TV turns on. If your not sure how to do that, let

Samsung TV’s do that. When there on, there’s no power light.
Ok- with Z-Sustain Board disconnected, which includes Y-
Sustain Board, your TV will still shut down. How much time
before it shuts down? 5 to 10 Minutes?
Now-
Unplug every wire connector on power Board. Z-Sustain, Main
Board except for AC power cord. Plug in TV.
You should hear 1 click.
Unplug TV.
You should hear 1 click.
Is that what you hear?

 Patrick_L134:About 10 mins for auto shut off, yes ( probably
because of no signal ). I unplugged all wires from the power
board except for the power cord. Turned tv on with remote.
Nothing. No clicks and no LED light ( as in there is no power
because all components are disconnected from powering up ? )

outlet. It’s dead.

No remote- Plug in TV, Click. Unplug TV, Click. That’s it- In red
box is your relay, that should click. In the 2 Blue boxes are
ceramic fuses.

when it was plugged in i went to the remote to see what

Weak components, are probably the problem.

 Patrick_L134:Hmm ok. I was under suspicion of the main
motherboard since "i think" the issue started AFTER i finally
 hooked up the TV to the wi-fi network after 5 years of normal
usage. It ran all of the necessary updates and then here you
go.. it started happening. Again its what i think.. Maybe this
started before it did the updates when it shut off on its own out
of nowhere. It was isolated. It ran fine for a week or so before it
became more frequent. Thanks buddy i will try with the power
board first and then if anything return it and buy the main board
if the issue persists.

When you were hooking up Wifi was the TV or Wifi on when
you did this?

 Patrick_L134:I hooked up the network 1st. Then went to the TV.
Turned it on, logged it into the network, it ran updates and then
boom. I "think" this happened after it was hooked up to the
internet. Not 100% sure but the events are close by before or
after.
I also did visual inspection of the power board just now and it
looks crisp clean. No burn marks nothing. ONE thing that
caught my attention was one screw that was different from the
rest. As if this was replaced already ( tv was bought refurbished
)
 my10cents:It’s a known fact that updates can corrupt your main
Chip on Main Board.
That’s why it’s a 50/50 chance.
So if it started after the updates, that’s probably where your
problem is. I would suggest replacing Main Board-

did not click, could it be that its still okay ?And what a joke for
those things to go down like that. Its like having to replace the
HD on your PC each time you do an update lol. They are meant
& designed to be upgraded I would think unless Samsung did it

OUT. Hmmm must be the common issue then. Should I buy on
ebay ? People sell them from old units with cracked screens,
etc. making me think its the same garbage. Are there new ones
like 2015+ models that are more reliable yet compatible ?
 my10cents:I wouldn’t look into getting a Plasma TV.
everyone quite making then except LG and there going to stop
in near future.

I can understand old-school analog tv tube control - which
requires x-deflection and y-deflection of ion beams. But what’s
this y-axis and x-axis thing? I read details about y-lines and x-
lines, which at the moment mean basically nothing - because I
thought a digital system is meant to just fire up 1 or a set of
pixels on plasma matrix. Thanks!

If you notice, both boards create 1 power board.
Both change AC TO DC.
Both have as primary side and secondary side to convert AC to
DC.
AC- Alternate Current
 DC- Direct Current
Larger Power Board distributes DC to rest of boards in TV.

the z-sus board "little board between main power and x-main.

 Pete:hi, samsung hpr5052. little one is power supply? it
distributes out the correct voltages to board. Yea, it’s down to x-
main board and the above. Would you say they might be
repairable or to just replace both? Around $50. The problem is
screen flicker or flashing 3-5 min. after tv comes on. No bad
caps that I can find, its not the contrast or energy saving. Would
you agree or recomend a different approach befor I do the

The flickering is related to your Power Board.
when testing Power supply, Y and Z Sustain Boards, there
should be voltage jumping on 1 of the boards-
Is your VA and VS voltage on Power Board steady?

 Steve:I have a Samsung PN60E8000GFXZA. Recently heard a
pop while the TV was updating the smart hub, it seemed to be
struggling to complete the update. After the pop, no power to
TV (no red light in corner, would not turn on). TV is 4.5 years
old. Talked with Samsung, had 3rd party service diagnose
problem. Capacitors on power supply board had popped, black
marks around the capacitors. Service tech indicated its most
likely just the power supply board, but main board could be
effected too. I purchased a refurbished power supply board
from boardss.com, and installed it. TV will now power on, but it
doesn’t stay on. While it’s on, the picture looks good. No lines,
colors are good, etc. TV stays on for minutes at most,
sometimes just 15 to 30 seconds. After turning off, the red
 power light in the lower left corner flashes. 5 series of 2 flashes
for a total of 10 flashes. Not sure that helps? Reading your post
from 3 years ago, I’m trying to determine what to try next.
Seems like maybe I still have a bad power supply board
(capacitors)? Any diagnosis / recommended next steps you can
give based on the information I’ve provided is appreciated.

 Patrick_L:If your TV "clicks" a few times in an attempt to turn
itself on and then blinks red led, it is most likely something i had
to deal with few months ago: faulty power board. I didnt have
any loud pops like you are describing but I paid $50 + S&H on
ebay for service where they diagnose the power board. That
same day they got back to me saying my board had few bad
smd components and that its been repaired. Its been fine ever
since. i hope that your "refurbished" board was actually
refurbished and tested to make sure it works 100%. ( speaking
from experience )

When you say “speaking from experience”, do you mean that
you purchased a refurbished board and found it not to be
refurbished? Did you have to have a refurbished board you
purchased repaired by someone else?
I’ve seen similar services to the one you’ve described where I
can send in my power supply board to be repaired. I’m going to
investigate this as after replacing the power supply board, it
seems to me the symptoms with my tv still point to the power
supply board. I’d like to know I have a good power supply board
before moving on to replacing other components. I am
questioning if the refurbished powers supply board I purchased
is good?

 Patrick_L:I meant experience in a way of me experiencing
similar problem with tv shutting off. My TV was new when i
bought it so no nothing I had was refurbished or repaired
before. I was hoping the board that YOU purchased is actually
fully funcional and it isnt the reason for your TV’s behavior.
 Todd:My Samsung plasma (PN650B) has several colored
vertical lines. The colors of the lines tend to change slightly as
the content changes. I have confirmed they are not related to
the input. They may be related to one of the x axis logic boards
(f or g) as the lines only appear to affect one side of the screen.
Do you think that’s it or do you think it’s the plasma panel?

everything BUT the Y-SUS board and/or the fuse. I have an LG
60PV250-UB TV, the screen comes on, Powers up and is light
blue to gray. I can hear static or TV channels when hooked up
but get no visual. Going to try the multimeter method first. Is
there a DIY forum for this TV I can read/watch on how to check
and replace either the fuse it the ysus board if that’s what it is?

I have an LG 50PA6500 with audio but without picture.
Removed upper y-sus buffer and got the lower halfe of the
picture including osd, however with black horizontal lines.
Fitted serviced bufferboard (only upper part) no result, still no
picture.
Since I don’t think both upper bufferboards are faulty I suspect
SMPS or y-susboard.
What would be your educated guess?

 slimontime:Replace both horizontal buffers AND the Y-
mainboard. I did with same issue, worked really well. Total cost:
$75.00, saved a $4775.00 TV.

 Bryan Rivera:I have a Samsung Plasma PN64D8000. It started
doing the cycling and ultimately picture went out but there was
sound. I replaced the Y sustain board ( my mistake was not
replacing the Y buffers with it). It turned on briefly and then died
again. So I figured "brand new board from Shop Jimmy, must
be something else. I already had a new TV so it sat there for 2
years. I finally took on the project again and replaced the Y
 buffer boards. Still nothing. I plug it and standby light goes on,
turn on TV at unit power button and press the source and other
buttons and there’s is activity but still no image or sound, just a
black screen. Even when I press the source/volume/channel
buttons I get no volume bar/numbers/source menu. I read that it
could have been the Main logic board, especially if the green
light blinks faster than once per second, which it was; and that
when the Y sustain goes bad, usually so does the X main. So, I
changed those too. Still nothing. Black screen, no volume bar,
channel numbers or source menu and no sound. I don’t think it
is the Power board as I do have power and standby light works
accordingly. Is this a bad Y sustain again or should I change the
only board left to change; the Main board?
 jas:hi i got a lg 60 inch plasma if i leave it off for a day it will
work ok the next day but then when i turn it off at night the next
morning will come on the switch odd after about 10 mins if i put
it back on i only get sound but if i wait about 10 mins i get pic
and sound it will then work all gay sometimes but other times it
can shut down after 10 mins again and same thing happens

When I attempt to turn it on the Tv clicks and a grayish screen
appears for 2 seconds(red light out) then I get a bright flash and
then the Tv turns off(red light on) again, without pressing
anything else the TV turns back on with the same grayish
screen(red light off) I have already replaced the ysus board but
no buffers and I’m not sure which direction to go in next. Any

the power board components replaced a couple of years ago. I
love this TV. It now has started doing something new. I turn it
on and it work great for about 15 minutes then shuts off. I tried
a replacement power board (same thing) I tried a replacement
Main board (same thing) I’m how thing it’s the Y SUS, but I
don’t want to keep swapping out boards to find the issue. Is
there a test to check out the Y board before I buy a new one?

 Mick (Aus):Hi I have a 2010 Samsung Plasma 63" tv
PS63C7000YFXXY. It’s been a great tv but now developed a 2
inch vertical band/stripe on the left side of the screen, that is
semi-transparent. It also has a couple of very thin red/blue
vertical lines that are only a few pixels and flicker.
I’ve replaced with the logic board with a 2nd hand reclaimed
one, but that didn’t solve the problem. in the Service menu it
comes up with t-con checksum error (on both logic boards)
even after a reset.
I’ve replaced the right hand side main board and the top left (I
think it’s one of the sus boards, with no results. (got a cheap
deal on 2nd reclaimed batch)
I was reading your article and wondering if it is the x-sus board
located on the left side of the back panel. Was gonna swap it
out, but notice that the x-sus I have is the 58 version, not my
63.
Could you please give me your thoughts if you think the x-sus in
 this Samsung could be the culprit, before I purchase as
reclaimed x-sus from Jimmy’s etc.

looks "better", meaning not as blotchy as previous description,
but I have a snowy picture on start up, I have always used the
usb outlets and I have never connected cable tv to it so I was
never concerned, but when I go into the menu the "cable/air"
option was always greyed out. meaning I could never choose
between the two. I am going to replace the Power Board next I
really feel this is the problem, what do you think??

plugged in.
