COMPANY DATA

BRIEF HISTORY

On February 8, 1962, a group of educators headed by Engineer Demetrio A. Quirino Jr. and Dr. Teresita U.
Quirino established the TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF THE PHILIPPINES as a private non-sectarian stock
school.
T.I.P. laid down its objectives based on the vision of its founders: 1) to maintain a high standard of instruction; 2) to
bring within the reach of the masses the blessings of higher education; and 3) to cooperate with the government in
the implementation of its economic and social amelioration programs. The School had an initial enrollment of 2,400
which steadily increased.
T.I.P. then directed itself toward specialization in the field of technology. In 1977, it offered a two-year associate
course in Marine Engineering. In 1980, the Liberal Arts, Education and high school programs were phased out to
make way for the school’s new thrust. In 1981, the student population already exceeded 23,000.
T.I.P. opened its Quezon City campus in 1983 located at 20th Avenue, Cubao. T.I.P.QC through the years
acquired adjacent properties including a frontage along Aurora Boulevard. The Quezon City campus has ten (10)
main buildings spread out in the 3.3-hectare site.
Through the years, T.I.P. Manila also acquired ownership of two (2) major sites totaling 2.3 hectares namely, the
P. Casal and the Arlegui properties. The P. Casal Campus has three (3) main buildings, one of which is a six-storey
building. The Arlegui Campus, on the other hand, also has a six-storey building.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

OBJECTIVES

The work immersion course of the Grade 12 students aims to develop among them the life skills needed in the work
place, laudable communication skills and excellent work ethics. The said course is a requisite to the completion of the
senior high school program. Furthermore, it aims to inculcate the T.I.P. Graduate attributes.
PERSONAL EVALUATION OF THE IMMERSION PROGRAM

As a student being in the pioneer batch of the new curriculum, we have been released in the field we will be taking
up in the future years to come. We are trained so that we will learn all the working skills a professional may acquire as
it reaches the tip of his career life.

As I work inside the library of our campus, I have learned that it is important for one to communicate to its fellow
workers for it produces a better outcome. Socializing while working gives someone the zone of comfort it needs to work
better and to be more productive than he or she should be. It also produces cooperation which makes tasks get done
easily, creating more time to finish more duties.

Basically, I got engaged in using the libraries’ equipment specifically a computer in which I typed a document into.
It made me do my job more efficient and fit into the type of papers the administration wants to obtain. By doing so, it
enhances both my working skill, and my media literacy knowledge as I got engaged in both fields by doing a certain
task.

Since I know no one in the immersion I did, I started socializing first with the Student Assistants also working in the
same field as I am. I have heard their stories in the midst of being productive and I got life lessons while doing so, such
as being determined enough to finish what you’ve started. It gives me the inspiration to do my best as a graduating
student and also to inspire others by my perseverance.

Being in the library, I have observed that it is important to be productive while also keeping in mind of others. I
believe it was a learning I will be using as I turn into a professional working in my field. Also, it can be applied in the
different aspects of my life as an individual in this society. It is important to always be sensitive to what you say or do
because its consequences will always have an effect to others, may it be good or bad,

In my time in the library, one of the problem that I had encountered is the students using the library not as a place
to study and do their academic requirements but to sleep and eat time. I believe that yes, it is fine tor rest but just like
what I have said before, being mindful of others is important for us, humans to keep in mind. Resting is fine but
consuming a space someone could have used for more productive ways is not. In regards with this, the administration
had tasked me to be alert and look for this kind of students and remind them to use the school’s facility wisely.

The strong point of our campus’ library is that it always thinks of what case is the best for the student body. That
thought gives me the will to work there for it enlighten humans about the real deal of the life and what should we do as
an individual to help others. Our library always makes sure that the students will have their information needed in the
end the of the day, after staying in the library. The staff have been giving their best service in organizing the outgoing
and incoming books for the students to use. They also keep even the smallest detail of an everyday affair, for someone
in the future use for his or her academic requirement.

For me, the library’s weakest point is the outdate transcripts and records of the students’ library card and even the
books’ catalogues. Its just a small problem yet it is time consuming when someone is tasked to find something needed,
thinking that ‘that’ time can be used in more productive manner.

One thing I had enjoyed truly in my immersion in our school’s library is the experience in pulling out someone’s
library card. Once, I was tasked to search for a student’s library card in the shelf full of it. As I looked into the shelf, I’d
saw all the students’ cards, including one from a long time ago. I enjoyed that because I had saw names and people
even from 1980’s thinking that once he was a student, but he surpassed the stage by traveling through the challenges
brought by time. I had put myself in his situation that for maybe now I am just like this, but in the future, the me in the
present will just be recorded in cards like this.
After my work immersion, I have learned that one must love what he does. Giving love to what you do, even if its
just a small task, you can be assured that the outcome will be positive. Its important to enjoy the ride you have been
driving because we will be living our lives only once and wasting time to something you cannot find your true self into
will be turned in regrets afterlife. We should always find positivity and happiness even in the smallest details of the jobs
and tasks we perform.

RECOMMENDATIONS

As a student in a newly implemented curriculum and being in the pioneer batch. I understand that there are some
flaws in the system. But for the improvement of the Immersion Program in the coming years, I recommend that the
school or the faculty will give the students enough allotted time to find the job that will give him the learnings and
experience he will acquire in his real field, hundred percent. Because yes, the student had a job but yet, having a job
and finishing it just for the sake of passing is not really learning. The student must be sent somewhere he will find his
real passion and he will find the will to work and contribute to the welfare of the society.

To the future on-the-job trainees, make sure to find the job the best suits you. Do not waste time performing
something you cannot imagine yourself doing in the future. Find a job that will enhance your skill and will improve you
as a person. Do not settle for something less, and always put your one hundred percent in everything you do.
